Tallyn Da Silva #270

Makes it sound like he was promised more playing time by Richo but Benji doesn't want to take the risk during games. He did for a few games and then turns around to Richo and says "see, it didn't work out".

And the whole line on Friday that he wanted to play Api because that's who gave him the best chance of winning...you still lost! How would you know what TDS would have done/ wouldn't have if you don't play him.

I don’t think there is a lot of incentive for Benji to play him and potentially get proven wrong … but why pick him at all then ?

If Richo promised anything game-wise, then he needs to pull his head in and stay in his lane. At the end of the day he is under contract and needed to let Haywood come through and develop. End of story. Strong clubs don't just rollover and let players walk.

The club has prioritised Api( for a further 2 years from 2027 ) over TDS …correct that they have more information than us and people get paid big money to get decisions like this correct ..

In your opinion the club has “pulled the correct lever” … we won’t know either way for a year or two at least…

The club has demonstrated on a number of
previous occasions though that they often get calls like this wrong … we live in hope this time .. but the odds given the players ages don’t appeal to me
Api is one of the best, if not the best, hooker in the NRL. The ideal position for the club is for Da Silva to learn his trade from Api but I understand there is interest, 4 clubs have been mentioned in an article this morning. I am saddened by his potential departure, but it will be his decision.

Yeah, correct mate.

I heard it a few weeks ago, just before he was dropped to Reggie’s and I was uncertain how it would all play out.

TBC, it would be a mix of both wanting to start, coupled with the background stuff that has made it a lot messier.

Either way, it’s a shame to lose him imo. Plenty of talent and will have a long first grade career.

There’s just a lot more to it, then a simple pick me over api if that makes sense.
So he doesnt get along with the wannabe rapstar and podcast bro's?
He finds them intensely annoying and full of shit?

In your opinion … what isn’t opinion is that he will be 34 when his final two year contract commences

He thinks differently… he should be the best judge about what’s best for him … I assume money will also be a major factor like for most players …and being the No 2 means he will be on less money

I am saddened by his potential departure, but it will be his decision.

The decision has been made much easier for him to leave , given the team has prioritised another player …surely you have been around long enough to see situations like this happen on several occasions previously?

As good as Api is, we really can't be counting on him as a full-time player in 2027. He'll be 34 turning 35.

It's a real possibility that Da Silva will be as good as Api some time in 2026, let alone 2027.

If the club is lower of Da Silva then everyone others in footy, so be it. But if we do think of him as a great prospect, then it's just stupidity to prioritise Api.

Latu Fainu, Galvin and Da Silva could've potentially been our Munster, Hughes and Grant. Instead, we bullied one on the way out of the club, tried to sign a busted 35 year old to play halfback alongside a 5/8th we overpaid for and are going to lose the other because we want to keep a 34 year old hooker showing signs of slowing down.

Like what are we doing here? Are we trying to build for the future or win now?

The coach is more worried about winning the next game then what happens in 2027 …he might not even still be here

Richo should have made this call … Benji has got more than enough on his plate with game plans and trying to improve the younger players …

Yep agree.

Reality is we haven't made the finals since 2011. We won't this year either. 15 years now. Obviously there's pressure to try and make the finals but I think most fans at this point would rather take another year or two knowing that once we do make it, we'll be a contender, rather than bandaid solutions which treat coming 7th and being rolled in week 1 of the finals as our goal.

Yes winning helps sign players, but let's face it, we're never going to be a glamour club in the media. In a league with a salary cap, 90% of recruitment comes down to who has the most coin anyway. Being able to develop players offers the greatest competitive advantage, so if as a club, we're showing that we're not willing or able to retain the best juniors, then we're not going to go anywhere but around and around on the hamster wheel.

Not sure if you’ve seen it - in the Arrive Alive Cup final that Galvin played in, Galvin went to put the ball down over the line and a player comes from behind and knocks the ball out of his hands. It was Jared Haywood playing up a year for Patrician Brothers Blacktown as their five-eighth. The year after he made Australian Schoolboys as a hooker. Honestly, I think he’s much better than TDS and by all accounts he loves WT and has no Galvin stench. To me he’s more like Api in how he can read markers and has a better short kicking game.
I'm all in for Haywood if he continues to make Galvin look like a complete goose. 🤣

I'm not going into a discussion on Api Koroisau, his standing in the NRL is assured. By the time he finishes his career he will be a WTs' great (imo).

While I am disappointed Da Silva wants to leave, it is his decision and I respect that fact.

We should have the intellectual and persuasive talent to be able to convince him to stay and bide his time.

But as we know, our recruitment consists of Shane, Benji and the stats lady.

$750k for Renno, don’t tell me we aren’t wadded up.
