Loyalty is important. Koroisau has been loyal to the WTs, is the best hooker at the club by far and in return Marshall is loyal to Koroisau. No doubt teammates are watching closely. Does the club dump Koroisau for Da Silva, a player of potential? Or do they stick with one of the best hookers in the NRL and go with a transition plan for the next dummy half in the Pathways system?

They prioritise Da Silva and keep Api around, transitioning him into coaching from 28 onwards

Yeah....something has changed from the club, unrelated to playing ability.
Do you really think this kid, who has been all in on doing an apprenticeship under Api, has decided after 21 NRL games off the bench that he is ready now and Api is actually no good?
Seriously?
The kid knows he is good, but is well aware that he has a lot more to learn and has said so in interviews I posted yesterday. He spoke of his excitement and honour to be learning from Api. He even praised Simpkins for teaching him things.
If this guy, who loves the joint and wants nothing more than to become a great player and be a part of re-installing success here now wants out of his contract early, then you have to think more critically.
SOMETHING ELSE HAS HAPPENED.
 
Just my opinion - It sounds to me like TDS wants out - like his best mate - and the easiest explanation without having to bag the club coach or give another reason - is to give the one that he wants a starter role.
No one expects Benji to get rid of API for anyone - and if he did decide to go down that path to appease TDS there is a real chance we lose them both
The trouble with TDS reasoning is it makes no sense as the FG path is obvious with API and the perfect transition for a young DH.
 
I think it comes down to us paying him backup dummy half money and other clubs maybe willing to pay him starter money? also, maybe he sees that Api is not going anywhere nor should he, based on his performance levels. Perhaps he is thinking go and play first grade somewhere, kill it and then come back to the tigers (the team I love) as the prodigal son in 3 years time.

My point here is all the hate and vitriol for him from the fans needs to stop. NRL players have a very small window to set themselves up for life and the reality is he sees an opportunity to back himself in a system that may not have a top 3 dummy half that could potentially play for another 3 years. If the timing is right, he may end up back at the club with us ready for him to take on the dominant 9 role, or perhaps Haywood stays on his trajectory, and we don't even need TDS.

All the pearl clutching re his potential departure is getting out of hand.
 
From the options I've seen presented, he's going to be sharing the duties with another 9 anyway.

I think this is as much a decision based on culture than the ability of TDS himself. If the club puts an unproven kid over a proven gun who has sacrificed for this club, what does that say about us?

If we dont make that kind of statement, we're going to have more Galvin type situations. It's actually the problem that Bateman highlighted. We're creating little monsters by putting these kids on a pedestal.
 
Best mate walks into the leading club on great money is it really that hard to understand why he might want to get away from the constant noise that surrounds this club when he has got other clubs knocking down his managers door to make offers.
That's reason enough from where I stand.

There’s zero evidence that it has anything to do with anything other than looking for the clearest path possible.

IMO----------- TDS at 83kg is still undersize, not strong enough, to last 80 min. at NRL level.
So do we put Api on the bench? Wage cut for Api? Heaven forbid; Mason in there while he still has his L plates on.

This isnt the same as Galvin. Even Tallyns manager has said so.
Something else is at play.
Why havent we used this bloke over the past month? He played in the round 10 massacre in Melbourne and then nothing more in top grade.
  1. rd11 - v Souths, Api played the full 80 and played well scoring twice and breaking the line 3 times. However we had a prime opportunity to win that game with Duncan in the bin for 10 of the last 12 minutes and couldnt get it done, giving up a late try. Api made 58 tackles in that game with another 5 missed. Tallyn played 69 minutes in KOE and did well in a winning team. You could say both bounced back well after being poor v Melbourne.
  2. rd12 - bye
  3. rd13 - v Cowboys, Api played the full 80 and did some good things, however he had a heavy defensive involvement again with 41 tackles made and 6 missed as well as some frustrating errors and penalties. we had a good fight back after a disasterous first 40 but fell 1 try short. Tallyn had a blinder in KOE playing the 80 and racking up excellent numbers in a good win over Newtown.
  4. rd14 - v Penrith, Api played the full 80 and did some good things but ran out of juice as he was forced to make 58 tackles with 9 more missed. We came at them hard at the end and had 11 minutes to score the winning try but couldnt get it done. Tallyn played 71 minutes in KOE and his second stint was the final 15 minutes where we roared home to score 14 points and draw level with the Dogs.
  5. rd15 - bye. Tallyn played another great game of 63 minutes in KOE doing some good things in a strong win over Manly.
  6. rd16 - v Raiders, Api played the full 80 and did didnt do much as he ran out of juice making 48 tackles with 4 more missed. This was his worst game of the 4 and he needed a spell. we fell one try short of a win again. This time Tallyn was on the NRL bench and wasnt used. He also wasnt used in KOE and they were flogged.
So lets look at the past 6 weeks...
Api played 4 games of full 80 minute efforts, averaging over 57 tackles attempted and 81 meters run.
All 4 games could have been won at the end but we fell short and lost them all.
Tallyn played 4 games in KOE for 3 wins and a draw. The game he didnt play where he was wasted on the bench in the NRL, they got flogged. It should also be noted that the KOE team had just completed 4 losses on the trot, including 2 proper hidings before he went back down to play for them.

It is clear that the kid is having a go. It is clear he wants to succeed. It is also clear that the decision to not use him in tandom with Api has very likely cost us wins in the NRL over this period. There is a path to first grade for Tallyn where he will be the primary no.9 and the club has moved away from it.
Until they tell us why, speculation will only increase.

Yes we keep Api until satisfied that Tallyn can bang 80 out at NRL level.
It may mean we extend Api for 2027 as the backup. Surely this could have been communicated without the kid attempting to vacate his contract?
