Tallyn Da Silva #270

NQ - no hooker

Manly - Croker and Simpkin- ordinary

Newcastle - Crossland (lock) & Matt Arthur (dud)

Eels - don't mind Smith and Hands, TDS likely better though.

Dogs - Reed being shopped & Hayward the option whos quite handy but could be the 14 also or TDS the 14

Tigers - stuck behind Api for 1.5 - 3.5 years further, could play the 14 here though.

These definitely some opportunities to become the #1 choice, somewhere. However, breaking it down.... I still feel we're the best option for him (extreme bias)

The guy I was responding to has doubts about him playing 80 mins …do you agree with that ?

he’s got 5 clubs chasing him ,,,what do they know ?
man I hate this whole black and white , on and off way of phrasing everything . . He’s a good footy player . No one is saying he isn’t , what they’re saying is should we sacrifice IMO the best 9 in nsw , to blood an unproven kid . Is he that talented ? And that’s the point .

Do you think he can play 80 mins or not …even if it takes another year or two? The post I responded to specifically doubted it

I think TDS will be playing the 80 come 2027 ….maybe

Right now … no I don’t . In 2027 … I mean I already said a good offseason in the gym , he should get there . But I dunno either . Most hookers don’t start to push through properly until thier mid 20s . Jacob liddle is 29 and he’s now only just starting to show all the promise we all saw as a kid .
For me I feel like this is a trap . We spent years chasing the great white hope only to get burnt over and over .
I don’t think the talent is that immense that we should sacrifice someone like api. TDS is no Harry Grant . At the same age Harry played with us and was the best player on the field a lot of the time .
Ok … just to prove my point look at Fainu . He’s a year younger and hits like a truck . And he’s a half .
You’re right about Api not playing 80. He needs a break . And I really don’t understand what the issue is with playing them both . I don’t get it ….
Even people talking about salary cap . Why can’t we pay them both 600k . How is that any different from the storm paying garlick 250-300k and grant a mil . It’s 1.3m for 2 players .
I dunno it just seems crazy to me … which is why it reeks of bullshit .
Why wouldn’t you want to be shooting it out with a gun every week . One starts the other covers off the bench … rinse repeat !
It makes zero sense unless someone has turned TDS head . And that’s what I thinks happened . And I think this is all bullshit and smoke screen .
There isn’t a player in this generation who has the talent of the last generations hookers . Smith , Farah , Ennis , ballin , Isaac Luke , early cook … were all better than just about all the hookers today . Except Api and obviously grant . So why wouldn’t you want to stay and learn off him . I’m sure Brendan Hands and Jake Simpkin , and the ghost of hookers past in NQLD , and Phoenix Crossland , are really helping him develop .
He’s not being held back . He’s having his head filled with noise externally .

It could be a smoke screen and he wants out just like Galvin … although we have seen for years how the media loves to pile on the Tigers misery , so not sure why they would be taking it easy this time ..

I hope we aren’t regretting this move for the next 10 years like some others … I actually think we might end up missing TDS a lot more than Galvin

Latu is a better footy player than Galvin . We either stumbled into it , or called out and exposed Moses… I’d like to think the latter but this is wests tigers so it’s probably the former . So to that I think we made the right decision .
TDS I mean …. I don’t think running dummy halves have longevity in the game , and most are one dimensional . Even someone like Cook . Hes only ever been amazing when he had the best pack in the game , and played with legends .
So to that I mean … im not really that impressed . That sounds like I’m hating on the kid . But yea … a ball playing 9 who can defend , and is crafty around the ruck ….. if I had to choose , I’ve seen both prototypes …. And nearly all the best hookers only the game from Elias to Walter’s to Buderus to smith to Farah to Korisau to Grant to whoever fit a certain prototype . I’m not saying Hayward is or will ever get to that level , I’m just saying “if” you see 2 players who have a similar ceiling , I know which one I’d be leaning too . I think if you take a running hookers legs away , they’re basically a passenger on that team , and just shuffle the ball on .

I was responding to the dude that doubts he can play for 80 minutes… these clubs must think otherwise I reckon
Thing is though, those saying Api needs a rest and to bring in TDS for 20-25 mins a game are also saying we should keep TDS to replace Api.
How is he going to build up his game fitness to replace Api if he is only coming in as an impact hooker?
You’d have to give him extended game time in a lower grade or with another team.
Dropping him to the lower grade is within our control but is sort of a a demotion of sorts despite the overall intentions.
Moving to another team is within our control from a contract perspective (at the moment) but is also entirely up to him as a player.
He isn’t displacing Api not now not next year and honestly not in 27 either but most definitely should or could in 28.
Does he want to stay around until the 2028 season either;
A being the full time deputy plying his trade with full match time in cup getting a chance due to injury
Or
B be that impact guy that in the short term benefits our side but limits his development and ability to grow to longer minutes.
Staying here for either option is a negative in my opinion.

Braith seems to know a bit and I think is close with benji

I found it interesting on his podcast that one of the boys said that the senior playing group had approached Benji about having Latu start with Luai at the start of this year --- and braith smirked and said he didn't want to comment on that .
If that is true, then the rumours of bullying towards Galvin are strengthened.

Strange the club would put out a video on him if he was heading out the exit gates .
By the way. Jared Haywood is said to be equally comfortable in the halves and in fact even when at 9, regularly jumps out of dummy half to be first receiver. He toook the game by the scruff of the neck last week , from first receiver, to level the score with seconds to go.

The decision is around whether he replaces Api as the starter in 2027, and Api then presumably moving on …this would also no doubt require a plan for TDS to increase his minutes next season so he will be ready to do so come 2027

Anyway …it seems the club apparently has made their decision and they have elected to retain Api … we hope the correct decision has been made …we’ll see how it plays out over the next couple of years

He didn't look out of place in short stints when no one targeted him...

The moment he starts, it will change and his defensive vulnerability will be exposed for what it is..

I rate TDS and I think he is a good long term prospect... But the only reason ppl are talking about this is because of Galvin... If TDS was leaving another club, no one would be talking about it.. he's not that good.
Really?
We are a far better chance of winning a game of football when he is involved....especially this season.

Yes I understand the decision. That’s 1 scenario. With a few clubs going few roster changes and the opportunity available in the present time I can also see how the new scenario has formed.
As I also said, he isn’t displacing Api next year, maybe if they both were to sign on for another season you might see TDS get more involved in game through minutes and position switching in the 27 season but I honestly can’t see it happening before Nov next season.

I agree there is upside..

But his defence is a now problem and it's not something that can be overlooked.

You can't play a team full of rookies in hope they develop like you think they might..

We can't afford to be conceeding extra points right now.. and that's what happens if we play TDS over API...

Again not talking about future state.. talking about right now and the immediate future...
Right now is not the issue.
Right now, Api is the dominant partner.
Right now TDS is the apprentice.
The issue isnt about these guys right now or next year. Its about 2027 and beyond.
Conflating the two issues is muddying the waters and creating drama for the sake of it.
No one wants Api gone now. No one wants him gone next year. The question is do we think he is still required in 2027 and if so, how does that relate to the development of Tallyn?
