Tallyn Da Silva #270

Yeah I’m happy Galvin has gone, but let me see…there’s been Bateman, Klemmer, Galvin and Da Silva all released early from their contracts within 6 months without a single player in return. It’s not about the money, we have plenty of money. It’s just stupidity. We have zero depth!
There's depth and there's waste of space.
Bateman - useless except for the opposition.
Klemmer - only interested in his paycheck
Galvout - yet to prove anything except he's a prick
Da Silva - unproven
Most were happy to see Klemmer and Bateman gone - shame re the way the season has fallen away since the Galvout affair started but that can't be laid at management's feet.
Yes, it would be nice to have seen some further signings but I'm hoping richo is right in stating they will wait for the right ones.

The reaction to TDS going on over 600k a year shows how deep the wounds are for tigers fans. He's bang average. Its nothing but emotional attachment. Money better spent elsewhere.
I get people feeling disappointment with the season heading south yet again. I almost pulled the pin a couple of years ago.
Most knew we weren't going to make the 8 this year so letting past their used by date players, and the disenfranchised works for me. Like some, even though it isn't showing on the scoreboard, I think there is more spirit in the squad this year. Hopefully that will be the case

The club gave him permission to explore it. He’s contracted until Nov 2026. Releasing him prior to 30 June is a dumb move.

So the club already began the season weak on the edge. Then they weakened the halves. Now they’ve weakened dummy half depth.

Excellent roster management.
One thing we know about Richardson, Galvin being a good example, is that he will move when the timing is correct (for the club long term). We don't know what has happened other than Da Silva is not prepared to compete with Koroisau for a starting role. Perhaps Richardson viewed this as the best time to move Da Silva on when other clubs are interested. His manager has a few clients at our club and we appear to have a very good relationship with him.

Crazy, very disappointing.

We are going backwards, lose two players with enormous potential and sign KPP (Who seems to hits and run as hard as my nana) and a guy who hasn't played for ages.

FMD

PS. Who thinks we'll keep Hayward anyway, he'll probably leave.
We should just ask Gus if he wants him? But then again he’d just wait until we spend the money developing him.

Didn't want an apprenticeship under Api but OK to do one under an apprentice?
Something is rotten in Denmark. Someone hinted at there being more to it.
It's interesting, Da Silva wasn't prepared to compete with Koroisau for a starting role and has left for the Eels. Some are suggesting the club made the wrong decision due to Koroisau's age, but Da Silva's decision suggests he didn't agree with that narrative.

I said it before the season start, I'm not convinced TDS is NRL standard. He's shown flashes of okayness when coming off the bench but mostly, he's a weak defender, gives away too many penalties and throws a lot of poor passes from DH. I know he's only young but he hasn't shown anything to be suggest he's the Messiah.
He gets try-line fever too.
Still, on top of the Gal debacle it’s very disappointing.

You don't know what Richo or anyone thinks.

What we do know is Galvin and Da Silva had top 30 contracts until the end of 2026, the club has released both of them before the end of the 2025 season, and the club have not recruited anyone to cover their positions (they have 7.5 hours today to do it).

As of now;
#9 depth - Koroisau, Hope, Murray
Halves depth - Luai, Latu Fainu, Mason, Doueihi, Falls, Mapapalangi
I wrote that he has moved players on when the timing is right. It's actions v words not what he thinks

The Bateman and Klemmer releases were fine. Two overpaid players who weren't contributing to winning now or later.

Galvin and Da Silva aren't. Especially not without getting anything back in return.

We're kinda stuffed for at least 4 more years at this stage. Just gonna need to wait out this Luai deal and start from square 1 like when we finally got off Brooks' deal.

It's funny how people in the same breath are happy we piss off talented juniors and then say "oh well yeah we're still years away, that's why our big money signings have only given us marginal improvements on the field!!".

Which is it? Are we competing now? Management think we're a win now squad but we're not doing much winning. Koroisau is already showing signs of regression and we want to extend him lol. Maybe Kai Pearce Paul is the next immortal in disguise.

As things stand we're going to have less depth, less promising juniors and an older team next season lol. Somehow going further backwards.

Of course I’m glad Bateman and Galvin have gone though I don’t agree with you about Klemmer. We could’ve done with his experience up front when Pole was out and I believe they could’ve held onto Da Silva until the end of the season also - he wasn’t agitating to leave and causing dissension like Galvin. Who is playing hooker this week? Someone even more unproven than Da Silva I guess.

I agree it’s wise to wait for the right players to become available, but I’m just disappointed that they didn’t really prepare the roster well enough for this season to actually have go at improving their position on the ladder.

Yes our performances overall have shown signs of improvement this year, but the falling away is happening whilst we still let players walk away from their contracts with no compensation whatsoever. How can an exchange not be negotiated when you’re giving contracted players away practically for free?

I certainly never expected us to make the 8 this season, but I was hoping for some sort of improvement on the ladder. It’s quite possible we will finish with the spoon again. In fact, highly likely as our roster gets more depleted and that, imo, would be unacceptable.

I was a big fan of moving on from those two at the start of the season … but I had some expectations that two NRL experienced players would be brought into the club to replace those outgoing 2…. I mean Bateman was gunna be trouble , but they should have kept Klemmer as depth until they had a replacement, although the contract implications were not great ..( another bad clause in a contract that has gone on to have repercussions

Yep. No defined long-term strategy.

Klemmer being moved on makes sense if you turn around and put that money into extensions for Galvin and Da Silva.

Now they're gone, what are we going to use this money for?

Even what we've saved on Bud's salary for the year... literally nothing in return.

All this money for what? To go to the open market in 2027 and 2028 when we're competing with two new teams with blank chequebooks?
