Tallyn Da Silva #270

There's depth and there's waste of space.
Bateman - useless except for the opposition.
Klemmer - only interested in his paycheck
Galvout - yet to prove anything except he's a prick
Da Silva - unproven
Most were happy to see Klemmer and Bateman gone - shame re the way the season has fallen away since the Galvout affair started but that can't be laid at management's feet.
Yes, it would be nice to have seen some further signings but I'm hoping richo is right in stating they will wait for the right ones.
Of course I’m glad Bateman and Galvin have gone though I don’t agree with you about Klemmer. We could’ve done with his experience up front when Pole was out and I believe they could’ve held onto Da Silva until the end of the season also - he wasn’t agitating to leave and causing dissension like Galvin. Who is playing hooker this week? Someone even more unproven than Da Silva I guess.

I agree it’s wise to wait for the right players to become available, but I’m just disappointed that they didn’t really prepare the roster well enough for this season to actually have go at improving their position on the ladder.

Yes our performances overall have shown signs of improvement this year, but the falling away is happening whilst we still let players walk away from their contracts with no compensation whatsoever. How can an exchange not be negotiated when you’re giving contracted players away practically for free?

I certainly never expected us to make the 8 this season, but I was hoping for some sort of improvement on the ladder. It’s quite possible we will finish with the spoon again. In fact, highly likely as our roster gets more depleted and that, imo, would be unacceptable.

The Bateman and Klemmer releases were fine. Two overpaid players who weren't contributing to winning now or later.

I was a big fan of moving on from those two at the start of the season … but I had some expectations that two NRL experienced players would be brought into the club to replace those outgoing 2…. I mean Bateman was gunna be trouble , but they should have kept Klemmer as depth until they had a replacement, although the contract implications were not great ..( another bad clause in a contract that has gone on to have repercussions

Yep. No defined long-term strategy.

Klemmer being moved on makes sense if you turn around and put that money into extensions for Galvin and Da Silva.

Now they're gone, what are we going to use this money for?

Even what we've saved on Bud's salary for the year... literally nothing in return.

All this money for what? To go to the open market in 2027 and 2028 when we're competing with two new teams with blank chequebooks?

In the article it says the TDS contract has KPI clauses

Does that mean if he does shit he gets paid less? And what would you even base that of, I’m gonna assume stats

Yeah Roosters did have the fortune of having the deal arranged a month ago. If Api didn’t suffer a head knock after the ink had already dried up on TDS release we wouldn’t be talking about it.
So we assumed Api would never miss a game with no plan B? We made the same mistake with Klemmer. When Pole was injured we had Charlie Murray playing prop in first grade.

The reaction to TDS going on over 600k a year shows how deep the wounds are for tigers fans. He's bang average. Its nothing but emotional attachment. Money better spent elsewhere.
It's more that we're just weakening ourselves for THIS season. We've given up.

Be surprised if anyone wants to keep TDS for that money, would have been nice to keep him developing before having to offer any upgrades. But if that's what he is being offered, good luck to him... AT THE END 25.

But, whatever.

The difference is Api is still playing good football and the other 2 are just going through the motions, proving that he has the right motivation and it not just a job for him.
Can't believe people are missing Klemmer. Am I reading this correctly? Sure his performances were serviceable, but he was on $800K/year. That's marquee money for a prop. Not once in his time here did he have a standout performance. Every game was 40-50 minutes, 90-110m run, 25-30 tackles at 95%, and none of it was particularly high quality. You get the same performance from Twal at far less of a cost.

Well we also had Twal out but at the same time Royce had been dropped to NSW cup. Would we be keeping Klem in reserve grade for just the 1 game. Respect goes both ways sometimes.
I'm sure he would have played more than 1 game, particularly when Royce was dropped. That's why you have a top 30 squad.

Warriors have Bunty Afoa in NSW Cup, Rooster have Townsend there, St George have Lachlan Illias. Depth isn't a bad thing and our lack of it is a big reason why we suck in all grades and in both genders.

If this was being done in November there wouldn't be half the outrage but doing it before June 30 & letting go of another player mid season while getting nothing in return it's just amateur hour yet again. How many times is the club just gonna write off another season before it finishes? how many times are we gonna get drip fed a headline of the club clearing cap space & building a war chest? Tallyn as far as we know wasn't angling for a release nor was he disrupting the playing group so what benefit do the Wests Tigers get from releasing yet another player early for nothing? especially after seeing Api will now miss Sundays game & who knows what if his concussion systems linger do you really think Tristian Hope is good enough to be a backup NRL 9?

It’s why we are the worst run sporting organisation in the country. Accomplished figures in the game sign with us and lose all their brain cells. Like in the Wizard of Oz with the poppy field making you sleepy. There’s something in the walls of our club that makes people stupid.
