Tallyn Da Silva #270

There’s no decision to make here the club signed Api on 550k in 2022 and it’s increased to 650k. I doubt the next contract is more than the previous. You can’t pay them both and Api is the better option at that price for the next two seasons. Whilst disappointing a kid won’t work his way into the side over time it’s the smart play. The criticism is over the top for mine.
My criticism is not for letting him go, but for letting him go immediately, when he was not on big money. Needed him as back up for Api until end of 2026, then make a decision depending on how Api was going.

Latu is better than Galvin and TDS combined. As far as I am aware he is going nowhere.

Gone are the days that clubs build their NRL team around juniors... Most sporting clubs whilst they like to retain the quality, are more than happy to window shop other clubs to find the right player based on their needs. Look at the EPL, NFL and the NBA.. get with the times eh... Look at the demographic of this forum, how many ppl are actually from the areas? Same applies to the team.

I'll also note Katoa went to the dolphins, Iongi went to parra, blaze went to Penrith... Do you see their fans crying as much as some on here? Its business
How many of their clubs were coming off 3 consecutive spoons?

Api is older than Klemmer and Bateman btw who people were happy to move on because of their age.
I don't think too many were banging on about their age.

Bateman was shit and he was trouble and on too much money, while Klemmer was also on too much money for what he was producing on field.

Yes Klemmer would have been handy to have around if he was on less money and if that 14 game clause was not in his contract, but everyone assumed that we had a plan to replace him with someone else as plus Terrell, but that did not happen and as a result we were always going to come up short when injuries or suspensions hit.

I think we really did the right thing by Klemmer by letting him go elsewhere and get a contract for 2026 because we did not want him especially on the money he would have been on so we could of let him stay and just play him for limited games to prevent that automatic extension in his contract for 2026 occurring which may have left him with nowhere to go.
That was our grand final

Put our all into that match and we still lost, nothing to be proud of there
Gee that makes 5 Grand Final wins in a row for the Riff and people said they couldn't do it this year. 🤣

They actually have a coach though
Ciraldo hasn’t proven anything yet. He is doing well with a stacked roster and the guidance of Gus Gould.

If he had our roster potentially he does a bit better based on his apprenticeship - maybe. The club did chase his signature but it wasn’t to be. Even if he was to make a choice I think he would pick a known Api over a potential rookie.

Kid wants to play 1st grade and I can’t knock him for that, he thinks his ready, I’m not convinced and I would choose Api over Desilva for at least next season. I think if he had of stayed he would be playing 9 for us by 2027 even with an API extension. My thought is, had he been challenging for the spot now we wouldn’t have let him go and wouldn’t of needed to consider extending Api.

I’ve said all season that 9-10 wins was about par this year. Expecting better with our depth was unrealistic. If we get the spoon again that’s disappointing and I think Benji would possibly walk away.
I hope you are right. but very much doubt Benji would walk away. If he did, we would all respect him.
