ON THIS DAY
Taniela Tuiaki - The Devastating Finisher

A selection of tries by devastating finisher Taniela Tuiaki. Complications from a serious ankle fracture forced the Wests Tigers winger and Kiwi international to retire from the game at the age of 28 on this day in 2011.

Pure Beast🔥

Thanks for the share. Gotta say though, given they have an enormous archive to choose from, it's a pretty crap highlights vid.

In all my years of being a Tigers supporter he would be my 2nd most favourite winger only behind Larry Corowa. Both very different wingers but both a joy to watch as they where pure freaks. You know you have a special player when opposition supporters groan when they get the ball and that is something that he always did

Growing up in Bathurst all my friends were St George (you know what) I was the only Balmain supporter so they nicknamed me Larry.

What a player. Benji Marshall got me interested in watching Wests Tigers games, but when I first started watching NRL in 2009ish, Taniela Tuiaki was the player who caught my eye.

I didn't get any league news back then. I tuned in every game in 2010 looking for him. I was so confused. Then the next year he retired. It was so sad. I only got to see him play a few times.

Favourite TNT try ..try at the Gold Coast ..65 metre try bloke just mowed over about 4 defenders ....Prince included from memory ....

Only highlight from the night as usual lol

I stay up at night thinking what could've been between him, Simon Dwyer and Chris Lawrence if they didn't have their big injuries 🙁

Was working up in the northern territory a year or so back as a correctional officer.

Taniela has the same initials as a famous WT forumer True Tiger aka as TT...He also was a devestating runner of the ball as well as a dynamic defender, when good ole TT hit the opposition in the Group nine comp back in the 80s,the nearby buildings had cracks in them, thats why they had to re formulate concrete so it could with stand the powerful impact by TT....
Having said that TT had to endure many painful brutal body hits,he was kicked, bitten, eye gouged, hair pulled, kneed, pinched and smacked in the head more times than he had lunch...
But TT arose from the unfathomable pain and stared the opposition in the eye and said""is that the best you can do.dont be around when I get up""..
A true hero and stalwart of the original game of Rugby League handed down to him by famous and stealthy players such as,Stumpy (Artur)Summons,Greg (hard but fair )Haywick,Chicka Cowie(Souths Legend) who used to stay at TTs place when in Wagga for the Gold Cup races..
All memorable and talented people who made our game the "GREATEST GAME OF ALL""....
Enough of the reminising, but I wish we could have some of the old game back it was truely an honour to have played this game at the level I did,it wasnt NRL,State of Origin, but it was what drew families and friends together on a cold winters day to watch the talented and not so talented make up a team to represent your local club....the good old days that were shared by the people who were the salt of the earth workers and poviders for their families ..win ,lose or draw...

Such a great player, I still reckon we would have gone on to win the Grand Finals in 2010 and 2011 if he wasn't injured.

to think we could have had
Tuiaki
Lawrence
Dwyer Benji
Farah
Ellis

all in one team

My best mate is a Doggies Tragic, very embarrassing I know
But......he used to come to Tigers games with me just to watch TNT ,people would of thought he was Tigers fan how hard he used to cheer for him.

As Ink said, when he got the ball you would not look away. That Tongan sidestep was amazing. Steamrolled many an outside back.

Loved everything about the Tank. Seemed a shy reserved type off the field and pure fearless adrenaline with the ball in hand and the tryline in sight. A devastating loss to club and will always be favourite in this household.
