Targets for 2017

I can't wait to see what we can do. Every yr we sit and pray that this could be the yr we finally have a go in the open market, it seems like the yr is finally here. We need an elite second rower. Elijah Taylor is alright and i'd take him, but we need to aim higher and make our way down to players of his calibre if need be. Hopefully we can do what Parramatta have done this yr and pick up 3 or 4 elite players. Players that will pick themselves, not guys who have to earn their spots.

Having had a look at off contract players the only really elite back rower that i noticed was Cordner.

But, we already have the world beater - Lawrence

Of the off contract players for next year there are a few i'd be interested in. Matt Gillett, Raymond Faitala-Mariner, Tariq Sims, Joel Thompson and Boyd Cordner. Gillett and Cordner are the obvious standouts with Tariq Sims not really living up to the hype a few years ago. Faitala-Mariner will be a quality player and Joel Thompson gives his all each week but is he that much of an upgrade.
I'd like to see Sims running out for us, he'd certainly help defend for our halves.

Very few established players would entertain the though of coming to the Tigers unless we have a truly above expectation season with the current crop of players. That is not a bad thing.

The elite players will be offered a truck load of cash from multiple clubs, so they can pick and choose, and often other things come into play like, housing, work for partners, work after football, schools and also plenty of other things. So I guess we will always struggle against the big name clubs for various reasons. I think we have to keep aiming at the proven journeymen and the exciting up and comer who can not get a gig at their present clubs and hope our young kids already on our books make it to the elite level

May not be a world beater but IMO, even after one year, he is better back rower than Cordner.

You know we see a lot of players and rate them highly, but they are playing in very good teams, take them out of that environment and put them in a side that is struggling and many come back to the field very quickly. Thats why I think you have to be very careful who you start throwing big money at

I love the optimism of some on here but we are not going to lure elite players…how and with what?? We might get an audience with their agent but we'll always be underpaying. Our TPAs must be some of the lowest in the league.

With the economy in slow down mode and the housing boom on the decline I think you will find over the next couple of years getting people to put money into things like TPA'S is going to be very hard for even the big clubs, so clubs like ours it will be near impossible.

If clubs are going to struggle with TPA's Supercoach, wouldn't logic dictate that if anything that will even the playing field?

Although we are on the improve with TPA's the rich will always find away

The rich get richer , the poor don't get the picture , the bombs never hit you when your down so low

The tigers have been caught out with this big time. I still have nightmares about the amount of money that was spent on Adam Blair & the players that were let go to get him. The reverse is also true. Players look average at an ordinary club, but surround them with a good structure and they look like champions. Melbourne are very good at this.

On the bright side the tigers do have a very good spine in place at the moment, and if they can be kept, and a couple of targeted areas strengthened, the rest of the side could be made up of honest toilers & a youngster or 2 and can still get results. The 1st step is to build a pack that can build momentum for the halves to work off, and also contain the opposition up the middle.

I think the biggest problem for 2017 will be that many players will get signed early in 2016

If we do improve greatly (Top 10 ) , too many players of any note will be already gone

I hope Marina Go has TPA's lined up all the way to Darwin to help the salary cap issues any big name signings will cause

Agree Hap,the WTs must get the salary cap in order and find some tpas, this is crucial for good recruiting in 2017,if we have something good to offer then good players will come…

I don't think we need to be so down and out about this now - very astute move from Marina to move Harry T out of the club so he can assist with TPAs.

I don't know if you guys realize this, but he is the most wealthy benefactor in the **entire league**. James Packer matches him at 4.5bil net worth, but he's co-owner now so no TPAs directly (but can get his mates to do so).

As long as we fix the Tigers issue to cover the cap and solidify the plan for a new training home so players will want to come here, we are going to be a lot stronger in the coming years.

I guess the only issue is we have nothing in concrete saying that Harry T is helping with TPAs ??

TigerTorch confirmed it mate (as well as being ready to step in for Klemmer bid). Plus, it's the only thing that makes sense as to why you would push him out of the business.

I thought Klemmer was all but re-signed for the Bulldogs. I hope we still have a chance as if we had him other players may see him coming as a good sign.
