Buckets being in the box is pathetic. Mayer did it to Potter and now its' happening again. Succeed or fail, he's the coach and it's simply not right to have Oneil looking over his shoulder. If he's not happy, he should pull the lever and have someone else within the organisation take over. I think we're heading for all the wrong headlines again towards season end. Brace yourselves.

Yeah i agree.

Yeah O.K Buckets is the GM but just let JT do his job during game day and not fill like his getting recorded with every message his sending the Trainer .
I would be saying to Buckets judge me at Seasons end if you want…...just leave me in Peace .

Unless JT approved Mark O'Neill being in the Coaches Box during Game day cause i would certainly feel uncomfortable .

Spot on Guys…what value is there in O'Neill being in the coaches box?....Its like when a Managers stands over you looking over your shoulder while you work....most of us feel uncomfortable and a sense of "I'm being judged"...O'Neill should be out wining and dining our Corporates with Pascoe during game days

Some would call it workplace bullying!

Tigerap I believe you have misunderstood his job role then.

Buckets is not judged on how many sponsors he brings in, his job is head of football operations and he needs to worry about getting results on the field. I would expect him to be heavily involved on game day with all our Coaches + Players, not up in the grandstands sinking booze with the corporates.

Gus has the same role at the Panthers and i've never seen him in the coaches box once in 5 yrs.

Felt sorry for Potter in that he had no control over the structures and players around him. Taylor was signed and told he would be given free reign, but apparently that is no longer the case. If the tigers do not trust him to coach, they should sack him. If the club has usurped Taylor role through O'Neills appointment, he should leave and sue for breach of contract. If we are in the market for a new coach, who would sign up for this mess

I have no idea why people are complaining. Buckets was hired to oversee football operations. He is there to make improvements and provide governance across many aspects. This would include overseeing game day operations and providing feedback on where improvements can be made.

If Buckets feels necessary that he needs to provide support and make some tough decisions as required, well so be it.

Taylor has picked a team not on form by the looks of things a few times. This has obviously damaged morale in the playing group, Mark has stepped in and what looks like enforced accountability across the playing group and wants to reward players putting in and drop players who aren't. I see no issue with this. I would think players hearing this news has reflected in guys like Chee-Kam re-signing and also what TigerTorch mentioned about JAC wanting the assurance he has a chance of being selected in firsts as being a condition if he were to re-sign, time will tell. Maybe Taylor had intentions to hold him back a bit and gradually grade him and told him to bide his time because he's young, whereas first graders weren't pulling their weight and he was. TT mentioned he's also been training the house down. Maybe JAC felt he was being held back unfairly and rightly so? The team sheet today showed that form is rewarded, I feel sorry for Rankin as he has been doing well out of position, but can't be in the team purely because he kicks goals, although TT has mentioned Simona is in doubt so there may still be changes

If Mark chooses to oversee things from the coaches box that isn't micromanagement, that is making sure people are doing their job. He may step this approach back a little as his understanding where changes need to be made come to fruition, but he obviously feels this is necessary right now. The team hasn't been performing to our 'potential' and Mark is there to find out why. In my job, if people have been slacking off and management/bosses start turning up there's generally a reason for it.

There has been solid improvements gradually over the last few weeks, we've won games and it would appear from TigerTorchs comments this has to do with Mark's approach, so I'm all for whatever it takes for us to be successful.

Keep up the good work Buckets.

Tbh I don't care who picks the team as long as we win. As soon as we start singing our victory song more often all these little factions and crap will take a back seat

Guys - I think it's not the best if Taylor isn't picking the team but it's probably not as simple as what is being stated. This week's team has Rankin dropping out for JAC. That is a great decision.

I don't care if Buckets or Jt, or both, are picking this team . Four or five weeks ago,the only way that Rankin would have been turfed for JAC, would have been if Rankin had burnt down JT'S house.

If TT was correct in his earlier posts ,( and it seems so).
Rankin was one of the favoured few, Now both him and Sironen have been dropped. something has changed, for the better.
Although I would have preferred To see Rankin in a different position, not right out.

I think the role of O'Neill in selections is being exaggerated. I would have no doubt that JT consults his staff and O'Neill on selections.

However…..pretty simple what has happened....Wests signed a quality first grade player (Taylor) and have let go players of lesser ability (eg: Buchanan).

This is why a player of Sironen's quality had been dropped. There is more competition in the squad and there is a viable alternative in some positions than the custodian. It's not related to off field staff changes, it's just the squad having a bit more depth.

That is way over the top.

There is 0% chance that JT was given total control as a contractual right so he'll have no basis to "sue" the club. It's not the USA…

i dont like it..

players play
coaches coach
adminstrators administrate

o'neil is welcome to give his opinion to the coach and what he would like and why but JT/headcoach should always have the final say. if you dont like what he's doing, then punt him, dont go over his head.

you can only be accountable if no one interferes with your job, this way mark oneil is giving him an easy "well he didnt let me pick my team" excuse.

Some people have no idea what this sort of role entails.

Taylor can some focus purely on prearing the team, the tactics and game day.

His role has been simplified. They obviously feel that is his strengths. Maybe Selections and other things were a burder that is best shared.

Lets see how it works out, but coaches like Shane Flanagan even Ricky Stuart ended up over their head trying to do too much at a poorly run clubs. How did that go for them??

Anyone thought they might be trying to help him not rail road him?

What focus on the team selected by others, and tactics that suit the team he has been handed

And with the news that Taylor was no longer the sole selector( if I fact he has a say at all) I again look forward to team announcements on Tuesday. Today was no disappointment. Great stuff

Accountability might be a new word used?

He is one of a few selectors (who would potentially carry extra weight being the head coach)

Please understand This is very common for professional sports teams.

To Have the head coach as the sole selector is not that common.

If we are to believe TT , then i guess the part people may be having issues with is Taylor definately not being here in 2018\. Not letting him pick the side and already thinking about his successor doesn't really sound like help.

But, it's all speculation if you ask me. Hopefully we continue to improve.

Bottom Line is Taylor has been afforded far more power then Mick Potter ever had over 18 months.

He needs to get results in these next 18 months. If he makes the finals Ill be surprised (and dissapointed) if he is punted.

And being 1 selector of perhaps 2 or 3 for the NRL team I don't think that is an excuse.

Although I sure it will be used by his regular apologists.
