Taylor no longer sole selector

Interesting we are going to buy David Gower for next year, and we are expected to get top 4\. I don't know who would agree to that kpi.
Why would the club put a kpi for next year when Taylor is off contract?

To get rid of him if they don't think he is up to it. He has a contract for next year.

But the top4 kpi is for next year? He comes off contract at the end of next year, meaning just don't renew his contract

Fair point but I think it's good excuse.

Buckets being in the box is pathetic. Mayer did it to Potter and now its' happening again. Succeed or fail, he's the coach and it's simply not right to have Oneil looking over his shoulder. If he's not happy, he should pull the lever and have someone else within the organisation take over. I think we're heading for all the wrong headlines again towards season end. Brace yourselves.

Yeah i agree.

Yeah O.K Buckets is the GM but just let JT do his job during game day and not fill like his getting recorded with every message his sending the Trainer .
I would be saying to Buckets judge me at Seasons end if you want…...just leave me in Peace .

Unless JT approved Mark O'Neill being in the Coaches Box during Game day cause i would certainly feel uncomfortable .

Spot on Guys…what value is there in O'Neill being in the coaches box?....Its like when a Managers stands over you looking over your shoulder while you work....most of us feel uncomfortable and a sense of "I'm being judged"...O'Neill should be out wining and dining our Corporates with Pascoe during game days

Tigerap I believe you have misunderstood his job role then.

Buckets is not judged on how many sponsors he brings in, his job is head of football operations and he needs to worry about getting results on the field. I would expect him to be heavily involved on game day with all our Coaches + Players, not up in the grandstands sinking booze with the corporates.

That's the whole point people are failing to see, Buckets is doing his job. So what if he sits in the box or has input in team selections, if it brings results I'm all for it. Isn't that what we all want?? Who cares how Poor little JT feels, you're an NRL coach and NRL coaches are always heavily under the microscope by their clubs the media and their fans it's just the nature of the position unfortunately. It's not like anybody is forcing JT to be an NRL coach.

i understand what your saying Pokies .

It's not about not being involved cause he can go in the sheds before the game , halftime and fulltime. Like TT said in his Post…...Taylor now selects team in consultation with entire coaching panel and final team is vetted by Mark O'Neill. You will note the team selected is now finally beginning to resemble our strongest available 17\. For example 2 changes were made by O'Neill last weekend!

I don't see what's the point in JT being the Coach anymore as Mark O'Neill made 2 changes last Weekend , let JT make all the calls he wants, that way we will all know at Seasons end whether JT has it within himself .

 …No he didn't..

Peeps are reading way to much into it...

Are you saying TT is wrong on this point?

What point..the team selected ran out 1-17…and the only change from the week before was Woods out from Origin...and Sue returning from injury..

From what I've read and understood, Taylor isn't necessarily selecting the team. I can't believe a coach can't choose who he wants to take the field. Seeing Buckets in the box just looks like he's trying to heap pressure on Taylor.

Trying to undermine him since he arrived.

Started with the pizza and beer.

If O'Neill wants to pick the team, maybe he should be the coach.

Guys - I think it's not the best if Taylor isn't picking the team but it's probably not as simple as what is being stated. This week's team has Rankin dropping out for JAC. That is a great decision.

Come on Russ , we all know the Pizza base was Gluten free ….even the beer was low carb

How long before Taylor or O'Neill are asked who is picking the team, just like they were asked whether there was a "quota" of locals that must be picked (which was from another TT post)?

If it is true, I imagine The Tele will be all over this like a rash soon, pointing out the lack of confidence the club has in Taylor.

News flash to everyone - Mark O'Neill is the main man at the Wests Tigers now. This role was created by the club who obviously thought it was required. He is essentially Jason Taylor's boss. Like Phil Gould he will have his fingers all over recruitment, retention, and the whole football department from where to direct money, to training fields, to coaching staff appointments.

Jason Taylor job has been simplified. He is simply the 1st grade Coach. Responsible for preparing the team, the tactics and the decisions in the coaching box during the game. He doesn't have to delve into 20 different things around the club as Oneill is now in charge of that. Sometimes it actually helps a head coach to simplify their role. Getting too involved in selection can actually harm them. It not a terrible thing that he does not have the one and only vote in my opinion.

I know its a million miles away from the NRL but i coach a Under 21s Cricket side in Sydney in the main competition. I get a say in selection, but so does the chairman of selectors and the director of cricket at our club. We also talk about batting orders and form of certain players and how things are going in general. Sometimes I get out voted 2-1 in selections. Thats just how it works, you get over it and start preparing the 11 for game day. However on the day Im in charge and need to make the decisions as the make unfolds.

I think some people don't understand how this works. Some clubs with very experienced coaches (Like a Sir Alex Ferguson) well they run everything. Other clubs around the world have the framework we have. What works best I don't know i suppose it depends what coach you have.

Oh! that's alright then Hobbo. He wasn't trying to knobble the team then. Lol

All valid points, but when it comes to team selections, any time Gus is asked about them, his answer is ''that's up to the coach''. I admire buckets intentions, it's obvious he's trying to instill professionalism in a club that's never known the meaning of the word, but i still can't help but think there's an agenda to ride JT out on a rail. Especially if the decision has already been made that JT will not be here beyond 2017\. So much can happen between now and then. Are you telling me if by some miracle we snuck into the 8 this yr that his job would still be hanging by a thread?

If it is, then it's obvious people are putting their agendas above the club.

If we were to sneak in the 8 ? He has to be given the courtesy of finishing his 3rd year of his Contract at the very least .

Here is the thing. If we can actually start performing to our potential maybe JT will be able to stay around longer. Surely that is what he wants.

I don't see anything that TT provided as bad except maybe the halves can't stand JT but as previously stated based on how they've performed they probably owe JT.

I don't buy into the talk that a decision has already been made on Taylor.

I just think people are making projections on what is likely at this stage. Having won just 13 of his 36 games in charge.

Phil Gould Might have said he didnt have a say in selections but I think our club has been quite unique.

We have been losing for years and years yet no one gets dropped.

This is bigger then a selection issue. Oneill has obviously identified this and changed the selection process.

Is the Australian Cricket Team picked by the coach alone? The olympic team? Is the NSW team picked by Daley alone?

Have a think about it for a minute. This is not uncommon.

When something is broken you have to fix it and Oneill obviously though it was.

Simplifying a head coaches role often helps them not get bogged down in other things.
