What's the fuss about….

Robbie having a rest given his workload in defence...allowing fresh legs and spark from the Bench in Cherrington would be an advantage one would think..

We certainly never lost momentum in attack when Cherry did this last year...

probably why they cant win much!

Prob more do do with the fact QLD have future immortals playing for them

Plus Farah missed the last game if I am not mistaken and they got blown out by 50 odd.

oh dear :unamused:

or NSW lack of ability to put Qld to the sword is also due to the fact they percieve Farah is an 80min dummy half. Lucky JT is smarter than Loz!

Yeah JT is a genius.

Loz at least won an Oringin series against a great side.

Come back to me when JT achieves anything.

This isn't about JT, it's about Farah who is no longer an 80min player and hasn't been for a while.

Thank god he will be gone at season end.

If anything, we looked better in attack last year with Cherrington out there before the Farah situation leaked to the media.

Yep it was a clear Cherrington speed up the service up out of dummy half when he came on late against tiring defence. You're just gotta hope he can make his tackles while he is out there.

NRL 2016: Jason Taylor says Robbie Farah could spend time in halves for Wests Tigers
February 19, 20169:00am

THE fallout from the Robbie Farah saga is likely to see the NSW Origin hooker spend time in the halves for the Wests Tigers this season.

The NRL club are overflowing with No. 9s, with former Manly hooker and one-time Queensland Origin representative Matt Ballin linking with the Tigers over the off-season.

Farah and Ballin are both 80-minute hookers. With the NRL reducing interchanges to eight in 2016, coach Jason Taylor will have a tough decision to make when Ballin returns from injury in April.

However he says there’s no reason why they both can’t fit into the Tigers plans.

“Robbie has got the ability to play in other positions, particularly in the halves and defend a bit wider from time to time so we will have that up our sleeves,” Taylor told Sky Sports Radio.

“If we have a second hooker on the bench and we lose somebody then we can move Robbie to halves, he can play a bit of five-eighth there for a while as he has done in the past.”

At the time Ballin was brought to the club, it appeared Farah had played his last game for the Tigers.

Told he could consider his options elsewhere and that he risked playing reserve grade if he remained at the club, Farah was considered long odds of starting in first grade for round one.

However both he and Taylor now claim their relationship has mended, and the coach believes he can use the added depth at the club to Farah’s advantage.

“With the way the game moves and how difficult it is to play 80 minutes in the middle of the field, I want Robbie to come back on the field late in the game and help us win a game,” he said.

“I want that as opposed to just be hanging on because he has made 60 tackles and had big guys running at him.”

Ballin is a known workhorse in the middle of the field, regularly chalking up in excess of 50 tackles per match.

Farah’s shift to the halves is unlikely to take effect in the opening months of the season, with Ballin still recovering from knee surgery and unlikely to take to the field before round eight.

But hey, it states there that both Ballin and Farah are 80 min hookers??? On this forum we would argue whether paint drying is slower that grass growing.

This isnt as negative as some members here want it painted.

No one can last 80 mins defending in the middle. Halves or Hookers.

Its great that someone like RF could help out by relieving one of the young halves if required.

RF isnt replacing Brooks or Moses

I agree. It's a win win situation.

Really. You're sure about that TW? Personally i like to see him finish out his contract with WT and afterwards have some other type of role within the club.

is really just headline spin from an editor hoping to create some sensationalism .
Taylor's statement re hookers in general seems valid

God save us if that Sheens tactics comes back from the dead.

Farah is woeful in the halves.

So if Brooks or Moses is injured during a game who else would you move to the halves ?

Possibly a position as assistant coach position to Taylor may turn up.

My take on what Taylor actually said is that he believes playing 80 minutes week in week out in the middle is a big ask both physically and mentally. Getting up for 3 origins a year is different to mentally doing it 26 weeks straight. Recent history suggests that Taylor is correct in thinking its too hard for Robbie, (probably more mentally than physically).

I reckon all 4 middle players will be interchanged (2 front rowers, hooker and lock) while the edge players will go the full 80.

Keep the middle as fresh as possible, win the ruck, and go to the edges at the right times. Fair call and worth a try IMO.

Considering we seemed to get an injury in about half our games last year, I can't believe we'd be willing to sail that close to the wind. But, where they will cut back, I can't say. Would be nice to have an 80min lock.
