Te Maire Martin v Moses

Look not trying to start a massive blue , but I'm wondering where people think Moses and Martin are at the relative same stages of their careers

I still have some questions with Martin's defence ,(especially seeing how well Moses is doing ) but I reckon Martin edges Moses at the same stage of their careers

Opinions ?? Thoughts ??

Moses dominated as much as Martin has tbh. They're both one of the top kids in their age group. I just think we're going to have to resign ourselves to losing Te Maire unfortunately.

Moses was going well in NSW cup last year & had a couple of good games in 1sts (ie. v dogs). Martin is also very talented altho I'd have Moses ahead due to his defence.

Thing is, if Martin was playing 1sts now instead of Moses he'd prob also be taking a back seat while Brooks steers the ship. I don't think we'll see the best of Moses until JT's game plan allows it. It's frustrating at times but I'd rather we play as a team than rely on the brilliance of 1 (benji). I think we'll be ok.

Te Maire to Hooker! Hahahah, nah really he will be a loss that we will be fuming over but what can we do.

Storm lost Maloney to keep Finch/Widdop.

Martin is the best young ball player I've seen. The guy is a long term first grader IMO. I hope we can hold into him for another year at least, I think it would be worth it for him. Brooks/Moses aren't guarenteed first graders yet and at some stage will miss games here and there.

Martin ain't gonna hang around for people to get hurt so he can have a run.

Think you could be on the money Sabre - play him at centre, good idea. Sooner he moves there the better, it is a specialist position that is not as easy as it looks.

Have to do something or he will go. Not as good as Moses IMO but why can't we have the both of them. We need a good centre, I am sure he can make the transition.

He's no guaranteed first grader either, Fergie.
How much does he weigh - he looks way smaller than Moses.
Moses is the best young ball player I have seen for a long time but unfortunately, and for whatever reason, he has his hands tied.
Always a shame when you get a good crop in the same positions though.

I'd like to see Martin play centre

Too small and his ballplaying ability will be wasted IMO.

His size can be fixed and I agree his ball playing would be wasted, but it's not as bad as him moving to another club.

In saying that though I'm confident in the centres we have coming through.

This is a perfect example of where a good trade system would come in handy. Teams can trade with other teams who have an excess supply of good junior players in one position that aren't going to get a run. Both teams are indirectly rewarded for developing home-grown talent and benefit. In fact, I dont see why it cant happen provided the players in question are willing to pack up and move to another team/city. Of course another team could always make a play for the player (if he was off contract) in which case he would have not interest in taking a lesser offer via a trade.

In a perfect world, a trade with Penrith or the Knights could be an option. Both teams have a number of up-and-coming young outside backs in the ranks who are stuck waiting behind established NRL players.

Lots of good NRL players recall playing 5/8 in their junior years. Martin might end up playing centre/fullback/half/wing, in the future. Who knows. But while he is young at the WTs they should mix his game up. Because we know he can play 5/8 but we don't know what else he can do.

spot on! even wingers and second rowers, hell even props have come up in the halves/fullback before because the best players often play there. even NRL props have great hands compared to a 3rd grade half.

move him around during the game, expand his skill base and comfort playing elsewhere a bit

Martin is a gun.
Moses is a gun.

Would be nice to keep both.
Quite clearly we'd prefer Moses out of the two.

Exciting young player to watch. His future though might not be with the WT unfortunately. We'll wait and see how it pans out.

Keep him, give him the 14, and let's play small ball.
With a pack of Woods, Keef, Sirro, Sue and Taupau, with Ava, Lodge and Akauola off the bench we've got plenty of size. Having a small playmaker like Martin come on could completely change the game.
If interchange gets cut down to 8 or 6 I could see this being incredible.

Huge difference is those guys were there cause of their running game. Martins strongest point is his ball playing. He is a half, nothing else.

Well,in my opinion, what would be wrong with playing Moses in the centre,Brooks at half and Martin in 5/8 …after all Lawrence could be gone soon, and I'm sure Moses could adapt to centre,he is versatile as was proven when he played fullback at times last year....

Teddy,Brooks,Martin,Moses,Simona,Naigama and Noofa....this way we don't lose anyone, and that backline is dynamite...if Pattycakes retires,Moses can kick goals(pretty good at it as well) ..I would hate to lose Martin to another club and watch him carve them up,when we have some very talented young guys who are versatile as well......

I could be completely wrong, but what would be wrong with trying these sorts of reshuffling and setting up a solid backline, after all Moses could end up being a very good defensive centre,it depends on what position he wants to play,I'm not going back to the old days when I played, however,I played a lot of "inside centre "as it was known then, wing and played a few games at lock...I didn't care where I played as long as I got a game with my mates and played well where I was put.....

This is just my opinion and I think some of what I have said could very well work, but hey,I'm not an NRL coach or an expert of the game...I like many have been wrong many times in the past...

Neither Martin nor Moses are centres , don't have the skills and probably don't want to play there either

We need to choose one or the other for the future

Happy,I always respect your input and opinion on this forum, however, in this instance I think you are a bit to quick to assess if either can play centre or not, they are both young and I think adaptable to the position of centre..both have good backline traits…

After all in the Tapau thread last year,I said he could play in the backrow and you told me he was an out and out prop....he certainly has done a great job at lock and when in the backrow has been very good as well...

I just think the younger ones can adapt more readily these days than in years gone by...it is only an opinion though....
