Team Attack

Just wanted to gather people thoughts on our attack this year?

Personally, I don't think our attack has changed that much. We complete alot of our sets which is great and builds pressure but we are very easy to read in defence and do not provide much variation when we attack esp attacking the opposition 20m zone.

I dont believe we have direct edge runners to suck in the outside defence or hold up the defence to throw a short ball into a hole. We also dont seem to attack with any depth (maybe the reason is because Lawrence cant keep up).

I would like to see us play more width plays trying to isolate a defender with number is attack and more options. Our middle gets us to where we want to be most of the time taking out A & B defenders and bringing in the defence but then we either go short side and punch another up the middle.
I would just like to see more in options in our attack and ask more questions of the defence (Manly and Melbourne do this better than anybody).

Another thing i would like to see is Brooks working both sides of the field and directing the team more in the role he should be doing. His little plays down the blind side are not working and put the team under pressure esp on 5th tackle when kicking to the corners is better option.
Anasta can take a back seat and just be the link man and still provide the guidance that Brooks needs. We have some brilliant attackers in our team such as Simona (who never sees the ball in good ball - just give him early ball), Teddy, Nofo and even Thompson with his quick feet before the line…...just need better options.

People's thoughts???

Our left side is looking threatening as that's where Brooks is playing. Anasta seems too slow and Simona and Nofo are having quiet years outside of him so that doesn't seem to be a coincidence. Lawrence isn't the player he used to physically and probably isn't confidence wise too. I wouldn't mind seeing Lawrence and Simona swap sides.
Bodene is a bit of an option on the right fringe which I think is underused.
Attacking teams through the middle is still our best bet though. Farah scheming and Tedesco supporting on the back of hard yards from the forwards.

Overall it's pretty much gone somewhat as I expected. Brooks causing issues and growing into his career. Anasta appearing over the hill somewhat and Farah being the irreplaceable cog. In time we'll see a new five-eight and it will be interesting to see how the team performs then. I don't like the playmaker on each side of the ruck and hope that will change. Two playmakers together are dangerous as they can play off each other rather then splitting and one calling over the other.

I'm with ya bp.

I actually think Lawrence is on of the only players in the side who runs a good straight line out wide. He may be a little slower but watch how often he gets the defence staning flat footed with his straight lines. If he can manage to catch a few he is very important to our attack.

Just as a side to that I think we have struggled for good hole runners since Ellis and Dwyer left, especially when we had Benji running across field all day.

Look I can't see Brooks moving too much to the other side of the ruck until next year

Our attack is far different from last season , we are far more structured mainly due to the fact that Benji has gone and the results are there to see

Our right side could improve greatly , but maybe Potter is keeping it a secret until later in the season when he believes that Austin or Moses is ready

Thanks guys, good comments all round.
Simona for one, does not get the ball enough for me. He has a great in and away with his fast feet and create 2 on 1 chances if given more early ball.
I think Sirro will become a very good edge runner with his size as long as we have options either side to isolate defenders.
I like the structured way we play to a degree, just would like to see more options in attack and more width being played on tackle 3/4\. Rugby League is about creating chances through depth and options sometimes the game can become to structured and the skill and thrill can be taken away.

BP - I do watch the games hence why asked the question about attack to gather supporters opinion. Bit short sighted to suggest I should watch the games.
Chris hits a good line only 5 metres out which is great but I want to see more from him and so does everyone else. He is an experience player who I expect more from. I know he has done well to come back from injury but I am not sure he is a centre anymore. Someone suggested moving to pack and I think that would be a great move but he would need to put a little bit more size on. (this is not a CL bashing)

Just watched those YouTube links (that pHyR3 put up towards the top of the page).
The attack was awesome. A mixture of speed and power…and a little bit of flare, by Brooks and Teddy. Didn't see Anasta handle the ball once in all those tries. Lawerence still runs good lines in attack. Lots of bodies in motion, like the 2005 breed. Hope it see more of that come Saturday.

the only attack i really saw was the combo of teddy and brooks.

other than that, most tries we've scored this year have been through intercepts (parra), crappy defense (titans) or individual brilliance.

we're yet to click as a team in attack. however, i'll be patient and hope that it comes together in the latter part of the season.

It all revolves around Farah, if he is killing the ruck with quick plays and dummy half runs our attack falls into place with Brooks and Tedesco leading the way.

Don't answer that actually mate. It!s not u - its the whole forum - we all cant do anything. Its all hot air.
No one is listening. Can we live with that.
Wait. Don't answer that either -
Im here with you guys.
We're in this together.
Through the highs & lows.
The lows being Teddy leaving
& the highs - Teddy coming back.
etc etc etc
