Team List - ISP R17 v Warriors..

Heleta was great, looks to have a bright future.
Solid win over the Warriors on their own dungheap.

Heleta was very solid at fullback. He took the high ball well and attacked at every chance.

He was easily our best- dunno why Liddle was MOTM.
Was great to see the ref penalize not playing the ball properly, there should be more of it in 1st grade IMO…....I don't think Fifita or Koroibete have ever played the ball properly in any of their 1st grade games, they just step over it they are the 2 worst offenders that I have seen.

Heleta was the best by a long way. Liddle was fine but the commentators were calling him when he had been off the field for the 10 mins already. Was impressed with Chance - strong and showed some nice touches at times. JAC took his chances well. He can probably be criticised for their try of the kick but it was a cruel bounce.

The halves were very poor. Marshall King did some nice things, such as setting JAC up for that try, but otherwise like Mapesone threw balls well in front or well behind players.

The pick of the forwards were Lolo and Sironen for mine. Curtis didn't do enough to warrant pushing back up to firsts but played well coming back from injury. Edwards was game but made too many mistakes and was generally ineffective. Griffen is well short of being first grade quality. Seems like a top bloke and good on him for giving it a go in the big smoke, but I will be surprised if ever plays a single game of first grade.

I don't get Wheelhouse - doesn't seem particularly quick, strong or athletic. I would rather much we had Satterthwaite in this side from what he showed over the last few years (when not injured).

Watched the last 10 mins, got a glimpse of what this team can do.
Looks like its in the WT DNA to throw the ball around and entertain.

Nah for most of the game this side played a very one dimensional game of footy. It was only in the last 20, when Rudolph came on, that the ball got thrown wide with any regularity.

Pretty much. The first 40 was an ordinary game of footy. We had no attacking options.

Only saw the second half but didn't think much of Liddle. Chee Kam, Heleta and Peni were all strong, MCK should take Kev's spot without question. When Marsters came on late in the game he looked a handful too. Would love to see him have a crack in firsts.

Liddle had more influence in the first half. He didn't have a bad game but it was a game where he could influence much. I like his simple, sharp distribution though. Similar to Cherrington in that way. They both just give the ball. If they run, it is direct - not lateral.

I still rate Cherrington as the better long term prospect but I have been proven wrong many times and many rate Liddle ahead of Cherro.

Match Report: Intrust Super Premiership Round 17

Sat 2nd July, 02:00PM

Wests Tigers Intrust Super Premiership have recorded a superb upset win over the New Zealand Warriors in their Round 17 clash today at Mount Smart Stadium.

With the game in the balance as Wests Tigers looked to hold onto the two point lead in the dying stages, a desperation tackle on their own line from Jeremy Marshall-King and Michael Chee Kam late in the game ensured the visitors would go home with victory.

Paul Stringer’s men were boosted pre-game by the return of City Origin representative forward Curtis Sironen from a foot injury while new recruit Manaia Ruldolph made his first appearance for the Club after returning from the Sea Eagles during the week.

Both sides were given early chances in the opening ten minutes but could not capitalise on their field position. The visitors were handed back-to-back penalties and turned attack into points when Joel Edwards laid a nice short ball for Wesley Lolo to go over under the posts for his first try of the season. Veiru Mapesone converted for a 6-0 lead after 14 minutes.

The Warriors were quick to respond, scoring two tries in five minutes to take a 10-6 lead.

An unfortunate bounce off a Mason Lino kick for Josh Addo-Carr landed in the hands of Warriors winger Tomas Aoake, who got first points on the board for the home side. Two minutes later and Lino again placed a perfect grubber for Jonathan Wright to go over untouched.

Wests Tigers levelled the game up in the 30th minute when Josh Addo-Carr picked up a Warriors error before splitting two defenders and racing 40 metres to score.

Mapesone missed the conversion from out wide, and scores were locked up at 10-10.

Warriors centre Jonathan Wright was placed on report for a lifting tackle on Chee Kam just before half time with Mapesone nailing theapenalty goal from near halfway to ensure Wests Tigers took a suprising but deserved 12-10 lead into the half-time sheds..

The Warriors made a strong start to the second half with late inclusion Erin Clarke beating three Wests Tigers defenders to reach out and score next to the posts.

Lino’s conversion had the Warriors back to a four-point lead after 50 minutes.

Wests Tigers regained the lead shortly after when Chee Kam provided a late offload for Jeremy Marshall-King to split the Warriors up the middle before the in-form playmaker found winger Addo-Carr in support for his second of the day next to the posts.

Ruldolph converted from in front gave the visitors an 18-16 lead after 60 minutes.

Both sides would have chances to post points late in the piece, but some strong defence from Wests Tigers ensured they would hold on for their ninth win of the season.

ISP FULL TIME — Wests Tigers 18 (Addo-Carr 2, Lolo tries; Mapesone 2/3, Ruldolph 1/1 goal) def. New Zealand Warriors 16 (Aoake, Wright, Clarke tries; Lino 2/3 goals)

Liddle was very solid, good service, good defence, made a couple of breaks. In 60 odd mins it was a very performance against a very big side.

Heleta probably was our best, along with MCK and JAC. I'd be swapping Heleta for Nofoaluma very soon in the NRL.

Bit unfair to criticise Griffin in his first game for 2 months.

Sirro was ok, got a repeat set from a kick (albeit on the 2nd tackle) but was a solid 35 mins in his return.

Rudoplh definitely sparked things up when he came on. I'd be keeping him in and let Veiru drop back to NYC. Littlejohn can replace Marshall King when he's fit again.

Sironen looked like he made a deliberate attempt to show certain skills. Almost luke he was saying "hey, i can play the ball playing lock role"….while at times it looked selfish (to me), i do think if we lose Elijah, Siro should get a shot at playing the same role

He had a good game in that role during a game late last season (or earlier this one, I can't recall) But where he is let down is his defence and urgency…
ET never gives on the ball...

Sironen did not show anything to deserve recall to FG, he shall be behind Griffin and Edwards in the pecking order.

He was never going to simply get a recall to first grade just like that. The problem is he's a lock more so than a wide running back rower. But Taylor is a better lock than Sirro.

A bit of time for him to work on his engine and skills in the back row in nsw cup is exactly what he needs.

Just watched a reply. I was okay with Liddle getting MOM, he is surely on the cusp of being NRL capable, I'm excited for his future with u. He'll be playing 1st grade next year I reckon.

Heleta had a fine game though. As did JAC just bring him back please!

Was also impressed with Marshall-King, he's come along since I last saw him play. Siro wen okay, interesting how he played an ET type game..

All in all a good win.
