Team round 1

Laurie
Nofo
Naden
Talau / Kepaoa (still undecided)
Tupou
Doueihi
Brooks
Stef
Api
Klemmer
Papali’i
Bateman
Ofahengaue

Simpkin
Blore
Twal
Pole

If Brooks and Doueihi can’t conjure up a winning game plan behind this toward pack .. they’ll never be able to win games .. this will be a do or die season for them both. Having Api out of dummy half is going to be a big bonus for them both. I’m still not sure to have as Naden’s partner in the centres .. Talau or Kepaoa .. after watching the trial game against the Raiders, Kepaoa has developed into beast, he’s huge .. not super quick but quick enough to be a real handful out wide. I can see Sheens and Benji him turning into a hard running back rower this season.

Also gotta think whether or not we go with speed in Staines on the wing .. ??

Anyways .. bring it on .. Sunday is our 1st game against the Titans .. let’s go lads, rip in .. !!
Except for BLORE, your bench is a bit on the not dynamic side. I’ve got stefano on the bench swapping with twal/pole. Better fit we need impact coming of the bench. Smoky might be wakeman as the 14 and not Simpkin!

just saw in the courier mail that Bateman has an injury, its behind a wall so i cant get the story but thats not good for us..if i hear or read anything more i will get back on

Papali'i mentioned something about Bateman with a niggle and with rehab.
I’d be guessing Papali'i & Blore as starting 2nd rowers with AJ on the bench covering Edge.

Serious concerns about AJ ‘s defense on an edge. Hope to be proven wrong. Does look stronger than in previous years.

His biggest defensive issue has been when he runs out of the line to rush his man or catching a bomb. Playing backrow he doesn’t need to rush out of the line. His front on impact is excellent and can bend an attacker backwards. If he marks up he will be fine. I’m really excited to see him open up full throttle at tired defenders for 15mins either side of half time or last 25mins of a game. He could give us some x factor has a good fend, is strong and does have some speed.

I keep looking at that pack and I still can't believe it. Match it with anyone.

Marking up in that spot is easier said than done. He will likely defend four in when he’s on the pitch and the opposition will test him (and the half next to him) as he’s not very experienced in making the split second decisions required to either hit a playmaker or slide off on the pass. He will also be more gassed than when he plays in the backs. Fingers crossed, that position has been our Achilles heel for years now.

I have my concerns on that as well, just think for 20-30mins as a utility player he will be fine. Let’s hope he nails it.

I'd still be starting Bateman at 12 over Blore. Even though Bateman hasn't had a pre-season with us, he played most of last year in the starting side whereas Blore hasn't played for almost 18 months.

Bateman's our long term 12 and also the beter option than Blore currently.

I'd also be starting Staines over Tupou. I think Tupou has the potential, but Staines was on the wing for a premiership winning team. It's a massive hit to confidence to go from that to playing reserve grade for the wooden spooners. He will have to put in some career best performances to hold off Kenny and Tupou though. Or at least outplay Nofoaluma by a big margin.

The other positions are fairly set though.

How good to have Sheensy's Team List Tuesdays back!

To misquote the late great Geo, "expect surprises.."
