Team v Roosters trial

Good point you make regarding the Panthers not really having anyone with electric speed during their premiership reign.
However they certainly had a lot more strike power in way of genuine x-factor than what we currently have and therefore I think the speed element becomes much more important for a team like ours.
The threat of being able to score regular long range tries is a big weapon and aside from Jahream’s try at Leichhardt I cannot think of any other long distance tries we scored last season.
I just think a 2-5 consisting of Turuva, May, To’a and Skelton is solid and tradesman like depending on whether or not To’a is 💯 fit and playing his best much more regularly, but aside from the aggression and class of Taylan May it doesn’t offer much x-factor at all.
To go to a higher level our team desperately needs more x-factor and game breaking ability which can hopefully be achieved by a combination of adding KPP along with natural improvement from all our team with more cohesion, but it would be nice to have one more outside back capable of burning the opposition with sheer speed.
AD scored a great long range try… surprisingly.
Teams like the Dragons have real speedsters but still don’t go the best.

A disappointing squad. Naming A bunch of kids who struggled last weekend in all grades. Our SG Ball squad was blown away yet we're promoting players who aren't in form.
Will be lucky if we can get within 30 of the Roosters.

Our 2 wings will be killed by the high ball. Has to be the smallest back 3 since 1979. They don’t even have elite speed either. Hopefully we have a few taller or faster backline prospects on the way or we better get recruiting
Tavana doesn't get beaten in the air. He's a Timmy Cahill that flies above everyone else.
Luke and heath are both shocking in the air.
It was sad that heath started at fullback last weekend and is again named their this week. He's just not a fullback, he never has been no matter how much we try force him there. we just don't know how to develop talent. The Roosters do. Attard is also tinye, but he at least has speed and is elusive

Do you think we should have thrown a couple NRL boys in there? I would probably agree with doing that. Nothing wrong with having Skelton, Geyer, Seyfarth, Bunty etc having a run for 40 minutes to strengthen the side and get some minutes into them. If any got injured it doesn't change our season one bit, so no risk IMO

I think it might be a stretch to say they're out of form. they played one game where their team was outmuscled and outgunned by the clear favourites for the competition. I don't think any of them were particularly bad either.

further, they've trained all summer with the top squad and deserve their chance to play some open grade footy. this is huge for them and their families.

the Chooks have a cracking squad, but this is an unreal experience for the youngsters. we were thinking we'd cop a shellacking against the Dogs last year and they held their gloves up. realistically there'll probably be a sizeable gap in the scoreline but who knows? let's see what happens.

Yeah we scored a few actually. Doueihi scored that one against the dogs and then set up Bula for another long ranger in the same game. There was also the one Galvin scored in the first Eels game where Doueihi kicked inside to him. Plus that length of the field special against the Cows. I think our backline is actually built for long rangers. I hope we score a bunch of them this season

His grace in the air reminds me of Bula. Let's hope he progresses like Bula into the NRL. I read he played for the junior Brumbies.
Yeah played in the Brumbies U19s the same season he played his top age year of SG Ball with the Magpies.

He is a smooth mover like Bula and incredible hands, very evasive footwork but not express pace. Relies on his skills, aerial work, finishing ability & guile to beat opponents rather than speed & power.

Has needed to work on his body size which is getting there and defence which has also improved markedly.

I personally think this kid could be something special, others believe otherwise because he's not your typical explosive, powerful or express pace winger.

Sounds a little like Lehi Hopoate

Thanks for the information. Perhaps the club will arrange sprint training like Bula.

thanks for the info.
I think he played in the first trial last season at Kogarah, and was very impressive.
Thought he must have been highly thought of to have gotten a run in that trial last season.
Hope he goes on with it. He does some freakish stuff, and we could certainly do with a game breaker in first grade.

Yes they at a minimum would provide that experience and be able to weather the Storm until the Roosters bring in their kids.
Godinet struggled against Parras SG ball side last week. This is an huge step up. He's highly talented but still just a kid. 30-40 mins off the bench would have been perfect

Maybe just giving Bunty a run last week as he needed one (and not this week as they want him on the main squad for the next trial).

I did hear from someone who lives in the area where Bunty was staying that they saw Bunty arriving home as they were getting to work in the morning! Not what I wanted to hear
Unless hes taken a leaf out of Cherry Mescia's book and finished his training by 7am......
