Team vs knights

I wonder if anyone else has made the same strange observation I have over the past few years...

At Leichhardt, the wind seems to be a real factor. I first noticed it several years ago and have been noting it down each game since. It was rather apparent in the cowboys game in 2021 when they led 22-0 at half time then we came back to score 30 points in the 2nd half (still lost though). The wind was strong that day.

The team with the wind at their back have won the first half every time since I have been aware of it. And go on to win most of the games. Whether that's a mental thing or fatigue for both sides kicks in in the second half, I'm not sure but it is an interesting possibility with some evidence to support it. The Titans had a few kicks go out on Sunday too in the first half too.

Does the flip of the coin determine which way the team plays? If it's a windy day, I would suggest whoever wins the coin and chooses to play with the wind has an advantage. And there have been numerous studies (particularly in the US) where wind affects performance in runners and team sports alike. Will be interesting to see if the wind affects the Newcastle game this weekend.

TLDR: At Leichhardt oval, the team with the wind at their back for the first half often win.

I was pretty disappointed with our first up performance .. for a team that is now being coached by Benji .. i was hoping for a lot more tricks in attack .. to which i cant remember seeing any .. ?? We are not going to win many games by simply passing ball around from side to side .. we need bodies in motion to create some deception and then pass the ball to a player on the run .. not to a stationary player who appears unaware that they are receiving the ball .. (grrrrrr)

I didn't understand the idea of having our starting number 9 and Captain on the bench .. by the time he came on, we had lost control of the game and we were always trying to catch up from that point. Having our best players on from the start gives us our best chance of controlling a game .. then we can bring on our subs to give some players a break.

Not sure if Tommy Talau will be fit .. it appeared that he may have injured his troublesome knee again. Ken Maumalo’s return date still remains uncertain .. and Sheens is still undecided if he will select John Bateman for this Newcastle game as he is still settling in .. like WTF .. 😵😵

I’m starting to believe you ST. Certainly seems to be a bogey place for us at present.
Maybe big crowd and high expectation too much, which doesn’t augur well for Sunday( although I think there will only be half the crowd this week).
Fingers crossed they can turn it around.
Think that has alot to do with it. Seem to try to hard when I'm the red zone. As in one off plays and side to side.

Rather them play away an away game.

Bateman sure is taking a long time to acclimatise?

Interesting post TT. Traditional RL thinking was if you won the toss then run into the wind first half and come home with the wind behind you.
There were other tactics like standing a little closer together when lined out, kicking low into the wind, and others, which were all taught from a young age.
Prevailing wind at LO normally from the south except on a warm day when north Easter blowing which comes the opposite way.
I think these days, when teams rarely long kick to take advantage of the wind, many run with it first up to try and get a good lead which is then defended.
So the answers a pineapple coz it depends on game plan, strengths and weaknesses etc. All I know is that if you score more points than the opposition the wind doesn’t count 🤣🤣

Well I’m thinking that he does have an injury but so much smoke/mirrors who really knows.
Like TS said, he’s here for 4 years so no rush.
He has had a few injuries.
How long does it take Storm players to acclimatise when they play away to Cowboys?
In 2 seasons at Raiders he played only 34 games.
You can see why Sheens regards him as the domino he wanted to fall. Averages more than 100mts and capable of 2 offloads per game.
