Terry Fearnley

Met this guy at work today, He is an absolute champion, Former Easts player, NSW and Aus coach, I also think he coached wests back in the early 80s? Top guy, i am only 24 so my knowledge of him isn't too good but i know who he is and he was kind enough to stay and talk to me about League for about 20mins (after he saw my Easts watch). Anyone here remember him when he coached you guys?

The majority of his coaching was at Parramatta. He basically built the squad which had plenty of success in the 80's [although he wasnt around to reap the rewards]…

He was at Wests for 1 year and then went to Cronulla. He was more famous for his diabolical selections as Australian Coach, when he over-looked the Queensland Players for the test in New Zealand in 85 _.\

Most of the old-head of Rugby League are great to have a chat too.._

_Haha he spoke abit about the Aus selections, From what i could gather the QLD guys were jerking around and just not taking him serious (Due to him leading NSW the there first origin win) As a result he took them out of the squad so Wally Lewis pretty much protested playing for Fearnley which as a result ultimately got him sacked….tho that may not have been what happend_

BTW Roosterman congrats on winning the comp. Enjoy it while you can cause the Tigers are coming.

_Truly loved by Mark Murray ,Greg Conescu , Greg Dowling and Chris Close\
\
So we'd won the series v NZ 2-0 and what does Fearnley do\
\
Drop the majority of the Qlders\
\
Then what happened ?? Last test we got thrashed 18-0\
\
Oh , almost forgot the Pearce / Fearnley meeting when he was caught out discussing team selections Only issue was Lewis was captain on tour\
\
Great coach , great coach :crazy :roll_

_QLDers have long memories when they think they hae been dudded!\
\
AT the after dinner speeches I have heard both Fernley's version and Chris Closes version of events… contradicting to say the least._

Hahaha… I've never met Terry, but I've met Choppy plenty of times and I get the feeling Terry's version may have a bit more creditability.

Sorry Chop.

Well what do people expect , Lewis shows up late to the first training session due to a dentist appointment and cops a royal serve from Fearnley

No wonder Qlders had a siege mentality on that tour

Just remember the Pearce selection meeting with Fearnley , why was the coach having selection meetings with the VC and not with the captain

And just remember , we led the series with Close ,Murray ,Dowling and Conescu 2-0

We bring the Mexicans in and we get belted 18-0

Proof in the pudding on how Fearnley's NSW bias affected his selections and our country's record

We hadn't lost a Test since 1978

You must have been very close to the qlders on that tour Hap.

One thing I do know is that there are always two sides to every story. The only fact that I will agree on is the scoreline. The rest will all be conjecture, personal perspective, gossip and yes bias.

I have been in senior positions in business and one thing that I definitely do know is that people get very defensive and very offensive when telling their version of events.

And yes, other "witnesses" tend to take sides dependant on their alliances within the group.

It was a long time ago but lets keep kicking the dog while its down

Fearnley was a dog

Glad you got that out of your system mate.
It would be a long miserable trip to Townsville if you're in that sort of mood, lol

I hope I'm wrong , but I think the least of the WT's issues will be Terry Fearnley by Round 22

That's unless he is coaching us by then 😱pen_mouth:

Anyway CQ , your worried about me whinging about Fearnley when Watto's raving about Brisbane Easts and Stryker's babbling about how tough second rowers are
