Will we be given the chance to put our players stats up before each vote

Maybe total tests ,runs/ wickets taken ,centuries scored , 5 fas batting/ bowling average ??

sounds good but could be tough for players who started before the 90's to get the stats without doing a bit of research

Yeah I know , but we need some sort of a guide

Some players would be highly under/ over rated for various reasons

completely agree i think what you said above is the best way. add in catches and stumpings for keepers as well. I think if each player does there own players we should be able t do it in 24 hrs

I like this idea. I don't think it should be seen as a popularity contest, every player should be treated on his merits. Especially if people aren't particularly familiar with a player so will underrate them cos they don't know anything about them.

Excellent

Geo knows what his job is with the comparisons , don't you quiz master :sunglasses:

Okay how about before each voting period opens up we get a 24 hour period to put forth our claims/stats for our players?

so we try to find the stats of the player.. e.g. my 1-5 batsmen, i find their total runs scored after 1990, average after 1990, centuries etc? how will people judge them? average or total runs scored?

I have decided on the voting process:

1st vote will be for the opening batsmen
2nd vote will be for batsmen 3-5
**Note** these 2 votes will EXCLUDE All rounders and wicket keepers chosen there.
For example in CB's case, Kallis will be his all-rounder and his number 6 will fill the gap for the 3-5s

1\. Saeed Anwar
2\. Simon Katich
3\. Jacques Kallis (A/R)
4\. Martin Crowe
5\. Allan Border *
6.
7\. Sarfraz Ahmed (W/K)
8\. Stuart MacGill
9.
10\. Ryan Harris
11\. Wasim Akram

3rd vote will be All-rounders
4th vote will be wicket keepers
5th vote will be pace bowlers
6th vote will be spinners

I decided to split the batsmen to make voting a bit easier. 50 players would be a huge task.

I still think it would be good for people to add a comment. Nothing major, just one or two sentences. Just so people can get a gauge on why their team is being judged the way it will be.

Agreed.

Yep, x 2\. Makes it harder to vote down players you don't like then without good reason.

Are we in agreement that off field crap doesn't come into play (match fixing, selling pitch info, taking mum's diuretics.) Purely vote on field performance.

When it comes to stats lads, you can't beat ESPNCricinfo.

You can get batting stats year on year, season on season, which position, averages against teams, averages in countries, with particular batting partners, as captain/not captain, keeper batsman turned specialists (ABDV & Sanga,) before and after they gave up the gloves.

Yeah try to leave that rubbish out of it. It caused disputes once before and whilst the discussion around it was great it kind of took away from what the game really was. Shane Warne is obviously a good case in point for this game.

The only issue with on-field performances, is one particular player (one or two more were listed as having suspect actions too,) was well documented for an illegal action. How do you judge that accordingly?

If we are talking about the other great spin bowler that isn't Shane Warne then that will always raise controversy. Some people may choose to vote him low because of 'chucking' others may vote him highly because he is still undoubtedly one of the best spin bowlers cricket has ever seen.

i honestly think just keep it subjective, there are too many variables to make it completely objective. everyone here is mature enough to rate players based on their performance regardless of who picked them.

not defending him coz he's my player but from wiki:

Muralitharan's action was cleared by the ICC after biomechanical analysis at the University of Western Australia and at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology in 1996\. They concluded that his action created the 'optical illusion of throwing'.

i think he was cleared because he was physically unable to extend his elbow fully.

I think that's a personal choice …If you think Murli is a chucker and rate him down the bottom that's how you rate him....

As for the stats too I don't think it needs to be too in depth either Tests played Runs scored and ave Wkts taken and ave dismissals for keepers...should be enough...

Also In my eyes entertainment and they way they played the game will come into it and that's a subjective thing...

I'd say it comes down to personal opinion.
