Tetchy Tigers

Didn't this "confrontation" take place weeks ago? Old hat..

Exactly, the fact that Benji spoke to Sheens about what is happening was was posted on here at least a month ago. It is another beat-up article based on nothing. And,as Danos implies, a conversation or question is not a 'confrontation'. The journalist uses 'fronted' deliberately as it implies aggression.

The only other fact in the article is that Benji and Blair play together for NZ. No news there.

There is also nothing to suggest that Benji and Robbie are trying to run the club. IMO, with something this major and especially this public, it is best for your senior players - Robbie is captain and Benji is a high profile media identity - to understand what is going on and why. They both talk to the media a lot.

As for the whole 'clean out', it seems to me - **you can't tear the heart out of something and expect it to keep beating** in 2011 while you set things up for 2012\. We are running 7th and have a lot of injured players to return. All of this is affecting our play NOW. Why give up on 2011?

its best for all of the players to know what is going on and why

Agree, it's how they feed their families and pay the mortgage etc.

Yes and they make a commitment to the club and sign contracts for 3 years only to be told they are free to look elsewhere.

Given the amount of injuries we've had this year and the inconsistency that usually follows constant line-up changes, I think this clean-out is a little odd, mostly based on how well the side went last year.

If anything, there should have been a clean out in '08, starting with our 'Cooper Cronk'…....

Yeah I think that's a good point Dave, cause I can clearly remember reading page after page of comments on the Tigers website back then, calling for a cleanout of the "deadwood".
Some of those players that were constantly mentioned have been moved on, some of them are still here…...for the moment anyway!

Could be worse, we could be Roosters supporters.

2010 Grand Final contenders
2011 Wooden Spoon contenders

OK lets have a good look at the big picture here, now if all these players stay for the remainder of there contracts and we dont release any of them i will bet my house on it that come to this point next year, if they are still producing the same football this forum would be up in arms and screaming at sheens to get rid of the "DEADWOOD". I am not overly happy about what has transpired over the last couple of months regarding the release of some players, and some players told to look else where for next year,However it was this forum that have been moaning since 05 about our lack of success apart from last year. And now that sheens has done something about it we continue to whine, FFS its a good thing this should have been done in 07-08 because now we are behind other clubs in the recriuctment area. my onnly concern is that Blair will take a big chunck out of our salary cap, i suggested adam cuthbertson at the start of the year as a cheap buy for back up front rower to our pack but was laughed at on here, well seeing him now playing and as i said a good off season under folksy and sheens he would have been a good buy, but i got shot down, my point is you dont have to spend millions on 1 player and hope he produces because when he gets here next year all eyes will be on him, like it or not for good or bad Sheens has been doing this caper a long time and knows more than any of us, so i trust the bloke hell it could be worse Terry Lamb could come back

Mafia

so now if we dont make the finals this year some people will make excuses saying "its a clean-out year" and if we dont make the finals next year it will be because its a "rebuilding year"

Perfect excuses for Sheens to see out his new contract without getting the boot - excuses , excuses , excuses.
The fact is we have pretty much the basis of a team that can win the comp now.
This year injuries have hurt us - but not as much as Sheens consistently playing players out of position or sticking to game ( and defensive ) plans that other coaches have long since deserted.
Can someone name another coach who plays so many guys out of position week in week out - or has a winger on the bench week after week to play a few minutes of footy?
And thats the tip of the iceberg!
Sure some guys aren't performing to their capabilities - if it's all the guys we're getting rid of the recruitment was no good in the first place (Sheens fault) or the coach can't get the best out of them (Sheens fault again!)
If he makes just a few changes I believe we can go close to winning again this year - but that will also depend if he is a good enough coach to bring them together as a team.
Last year we nearly got there despite his lousy coaching - here's hoping we can again.

The refs have also had a big influence on the way we are playing. There is more wrestling this year, holding down the player, not standing square at marker, etc. It has made it harder for the team to get attacking momentum and definitely dulled the impact of our strike players.
