Exact same trend as 'several' prior big names.

1. Manager sees if we are interested.
2. We jump at the chance / we have cap room etc...
3. Manager puts it out there he may join the Tigers...i.e. any other clubs want to come in right now / would prefer to go anywhere but Tigers.
4. Player goes cold on the idea / every man and his dog says 'go anywhere but there mate'.
5. Player ends up at another club. TPJ was with Sonny Bill at the boxing sat night. We all know where he will end up...

It is fairly clear we are merely a pawn in play...used to drum up interest.

Lodge was also meant to be on his way to Newcastle - it's not just us. This is more like the decision about who goes and stays being taken out of the hands of Kevin Walters before the mid year cut off date. The issue in this case us the Broncos in damage control.

It is not just us, yes. But we really need a 'win'.

Knights past few years have landed Klemmer, Ponga, Pearce etc. They don't need to show they can do it.

We had a clearly open window re TPJ...even Chairman Lee got up on his soap box again and uttered his name...these things 'happen' when you have the right people closing deals.

Fairly or unfairly, we have a long, long history now of not being able to get big names across the line.

Not much we can or any club can do when the club the two players are contracted to no longer will release them.

Actually, there would have been multiple deals put on the table. Obviously, ideally we would have liked TPJ subsidized, but if you hear the deal may be off...is it worth saying "we will take on all his salary" and getting it across the line? We seem to have delayed as we are hoping to convince Finucane. I'd almost say that deal is no chance, but I hope I am wrong and we do land him. We desperately need a win and there is not a lot left for 2022.

We should just save our dollars and go for the best juniors. Someone on here mentioned Reese Walsh way before he was poached from Brisbane. Those are the players we should target.

I'd love to get TPJ and the club should try but they need to set a spending limit.

we tried for Reece Walsh last year and Broncos told us to get lost they were not releasing him

5 would be my bet too

Maybe TPJ isn't as stupid as some make him out to be. I know if I was in his position I would wait to see how the Tigers and most importantly the under pressure coach finish the season.

Madge may not even be here next season if the rubbish continues so why would you risk 3 years of your NRL timeframe on a risk of a club like us.

People need to look at it from the players point of view.

Nah,I reckon its Iken trying to inject some stability into the club, which it desperately needs.
Everyone to just focus on doing their job THIS season and we'll see where we go at the end of the year.
I think he'll be very good for the Broncos because he comes relatively ego -free unlike the majority up there with the free opinions theyre all happy to share..

This off the Roar

Matt Lodge will see out the NRL season at the Brisbane Broncos and Tevita Pangai is likely to follow suit after coach Kevin Walters revealed the second-rower’s management has been told he won’t be leaving.

The fallout from Brisbane’s horror first half of the season continued on Monday, with Lodge back at training after publicly questioning the club last week.

The prop forward had been linked to a mid-season move to the Warriors through uncertainty over his future, while Pangai was expected to link with Wests Tigers in coming weeks.

But amid reports of a player revolt and two key football staff members being shown the door, Walters said stability with the playing group had been made a priority.

“We’ve had that conversation. I have told Matt and his manager he is not going anywhere,” Walters said.

“He will be staying here. We just need to get some security and safety around the players on their future. That is the decision we have made.

“The uncertainty was probably one of the factors (for discontent) among the playing group on who is staying and who is going.

“So we have put it in a basket to the side. No one is going anywhere so we are going to finish the season on a good and positive note.”

**Asked what that meant for Pangai’s future, Walters said: “We have had those discussions with Tevita, that is ongoing**

Kevvie is just circling the roundabout like he has done with previous comments about players that were to be released from contracts early.
Similar to a certain bloke called Joffa who was, then wasn’t to be released.
For all we know the WT (and any other suitor for TPJ) may have cooled on getting him this year after the four week suspension and Brisbane is now trying to put the cat back in the bag.

That is very true
But you would think if we paid for two weeks of his suspension and had him train with our team for those two weeks, it could persuade the Broncos to release TPJ
what's he on ?
$25'000 per game
That could save the Broncos $50'000
And it could secure us TPJ
But who really knows what is going on
Ikin and Walters could be pressuring us to sign him up now to save them $
We could be holding off
It could be a game of bluff
But the funny thing now is Pangai is probably holding all the Ace's

Plus she can shut the borders in an instant, and keep the other team out, we have no idea how to do that

So if we sign her, would she go better in the middle or should we use her to plug one of our edges?

I will point out to you that since Knights signed Ponga and Pearce they have finished 11th, 11th, 7th and currently 12th. I understand your point is about a "win" in recruitment, but I don't think Knights are a good illustration of what happens when you start "winning" recruitment battles for name players.

I'd love to sign a prominent player for all the reasons, but really I'd prefer we go the Storm route where we develop a winning system and bring the talent in at a young age and upskill them ourselves. Big dream but that's the way to be consistently good - it's what Storm, Penrith and Roosters are doing, except Roosters also excel in the odd big-name signing.

No denial in that sentence

interesting, as he is missing 4 weeks I woukd not move heaven and earth to get him this year still hope we get him

The Broncos don’t know what they’re doing, they seem to be changing their direction weekly. Compulsion in the face of confusion.
