I get what Hartigan is trying to achieve, but we're not the Roosters and he's negotiating like we are.

700k is a gamble, but I'd take this gamble over the one we took on Packer, Reynolds and Mbye.

We need strike power. TPJ is a game changer on his own. We can grow our own leaders and culture off the back of it.

Disappointed.

How many games has he changed for the Broncos this year?

Bullied David Fifita in the game they beat them earlier this year, destroyed Sam Walker and fired up Radley to the point of no return in attack when they beat the Roosters a few weeks ago… he’s inconsistent I agree but he is a definite game changer at his best.

"Alex Twal doesn't bend the line" might be the dumbest take on this forum. Have you watched him play? He's always pumping his legs pushing through, rarely gets put on his back and he's TENTH in the NRL for post contact metres and has the most run metres out of any forward at the club. He's a good player, his issue is his lack of creativity.

I watch him every week. He never wins the collision in attack or defence. He’s a hard worker but a plodder

Yep

Are you suggesting that we are perhaps not a ‘destination club’, or ‘glamour club’ as Chairman Lee described?

I would say that ...but I'm too fearful of being called reactionary by a certain Forum member whose been sticking the boot into Jonesy ......

A lot better than him.

Interested to see what other ideas we’ve got on the recruitment front.

An extra $100k over TPJ buys you a genuine game changer EVERY game who stays on the field and doesnt mix with bikie gangs..
..Brandon Smith..now the best hooker in the NRL
I know weve got 2 already,but...

TPJ’s management have been informed we are no longer in the mix. Door firmly closed.

Not a good start to the day for us Tigers fans again...
I understand them not paying overs but surely they know we are NOT a desired club ATM and will keep getting this outcome until something changes or a player has no other options. @THE_POM
Fingers crossed they are at least looking at Dale finucane as its pointless having all this money and not getting a player we desperately need like him - Experienced campaigner

Appreciate the update and if there is others we are looking at we would love to know.

Dale =Tamou 2.0

Disappointed for sure but I for one am comfortable seeing the club dig it’s heels in. 700k seems excessive for an inconsistent player.

I want motivated players with a point to prove, busting their gut. Not playing just for $$ and being content. Joe O is an example of this. He’s had some good games, still needs to improve but he knows he has to work hard because we were his last chance. Same with Roberts which may not work out but is still better than what we had (IMO).

They will come eventually as the squad improves over time.

I'm 100% behind this one..
Madge said a month or so ago there is plenty of players that want to come here (cough cough), so as he is the current NZ coach you would have to believe he has some inside knowledge that could help..
He is a game breaker and just the morale he would bring would be priceless.

The point is to come up with a relative value for a player, then stick to that value in negotiations. If TPJ's management wants too much, that's fine, let him walk. Don't be drawn into the emotional bidding like with house auctions.

I would guess that other clubs are in talks, which gives TPJ a stronger negotiating position.

Tigers have got themselves into so many holes in the past by paying overs for players who are at risk of not producing. You say "go for it" at the reported 700K, but if he is a flop, Tigers can less afford to carry that kind of financial commitment than some of the better rosters.

Do you think we are looking at Dale F as an option now ?

Eventually we have to buy someone ....we can't have more than a 6% variance in what we are given cap wise and what we spend

And before some one starts spruiking upgrades on the current roster .....I'm not sure I'd be upgrading anyone at the moment

Starting to sound? It's nothing but reactionary. To paraphrase "I understand not paying overs but we need to sign someone". The concept is contradictory - you don't understand not paying overs if your priority is making "a signing".

The type of recruitment drive that some fans are asking for June 2021 ("please please sign a big name, please") is exactly what Ivan did in 2017 and has put a bullet in our roster efforts for the past 4 seasons. Packer and Mbye and Reynolds and Matulino - the forum was fine with the decisions, the size of the decisions, the length of the decisions, the "feel good" factor of doing some shopping and buying, and not one of those players turned out good value for money, driven by the coach who (we didn't know) had one eye on the door.

Based on 4 years and 800 k ...hopefully not .....650 k on 3 years with an option for us to take up the 4th year .....yeah ....style wise he could be a Gallen and just keeps motoring on .....players in his style you just don't know ...but in the same sentence he could run out of puff in 2 years .....

Easy fix - you front-load an existing contract, so long as you have the required # players contracted.
