Root needs some lessons in how to use his bowlers better. Criminal that Anderson and Broad weren't brought straight on after lunch on Day 3\. Totally crapped the bed and that more or less determined the game IMO.
 
Smith has scored as many Test tons as he has 50's (21 each.)

Averaging 61.5 and has 5500 runs from 57 matches. He looks invincible at the moment, proof that your headspace is as important as your technique because god knows he's not a pretty bat to watch, but his eye and ability to play every ball on it's merit is what makes him dominant.

Love every day of it. The next one will be interesting as well. England's best chance to swing the ball.
I'd give each of the three plays bought into this test a tick. Bangers, Paine and Marsh.

Lyon deserves more than 8 especially with the run-out in the first innings.

Yeah definitely agreed. He bowled consistently throughout the whole match, bowling very economically and holding up his end, while also taking vital wickets. And not only was his runout brilliant, it also came at a very important time for the Aussies.
Starc could also have probably got an 8, considering he swept away the tail for next to no runs in both innings.
 
Marsh a 7? Yeah he scored 51 but he threw his wicket away with a typically stupid shot when his team needed him the most, dropped a catch and studded our strike bowler. Luckily Cummins had his big boy pants on.

Marsh did come in at a time when we were in deep trouble, if he got out cheaply (single figures) we wouldn't have first innings lead. The Poms were bowling well and had good fields set. There was a lot of pressure on him and Smith. During that time and when Cummins was out there with Smith was when the momentum started to turn back our way.
He did drop a sitter in the outfield.
