The Bali 9

That's not the point MM, everyone seems to be missing that.

This is an inherent problem in Australia. We demand that all that come and/or live here live by our laws, our customs. Then we scream like stuck pigs when an Aussie goes and gets themselves into trouble overseas, and expect them to change their laws and customs to get our (stupid) citizens out of a situation they've put themselves in. You can't have it both ways.

They knew what they were doing, they knew the laws, they knew the penalty. Can't plead stupidity on this one. I can only hope that this deters people from wanting to do it.

It doesn't seem to deter people

How many people since have been caught ??

It would have to be in the double figures that readily come to mind

CB,you are right,I also hope it is a deterrent so as other people think twice before making a stupid decision …..

I think we get a bit embroiled into the argument because we don't shoot people here in Australia for crimes,we choose to put them in prison and let them live that life and although very restricted, they have opportunity to do something while serving their time.....

They still have some sort of life, albeit restricted, but still alive to ponder their bad decisions....

What happens if in a few years time authorities find contradictory evidence that proves they were not guilty or evidence which shows they were forced to commit the act?

So it would be fair to say that nothing would be achieved by shooting these men.
I totally understand there Laws is there Laws and if they shot 6 other Foreigners the week before for the same crimes well then these Men would have to face the same treatment.

But I do not believe they should be paying for it with there lives, when the Terrorist bombed and murdered over 100 people but yet are FREE?
So there agreeing to Terrorism to a certain extent?

I'm sure these Men are sorry for there Stupidity, are they rehabilitated? I would say so.

I just believe this Law of there's is way over the top IMO.

I understand what everyone is trying to say, it's all a moot point though. You can sit here and bleat that it's wrong/immoral/inhuman until the cows come home, it doesn't matter what you think.

Their laws, their punishment. Whether you like it or not or agree with it or not, their laws have to be respected when you're in their country. It's as simple as that. As I said earlier we have this arrogant sense of righteousness that whenever we get caught doing something overseas our laws/customs should be applied. That's why we make shit tourists.

That's their prerogative. Thirty odd Balinese were killed in the Bali bombings too. Let's not forget the arseholes who perpetrated the crime are dead, they were executed. They killed the Malaysian fella that was on the run for years afterward. The only guy I can remember serving a BS sentence was the cleric who radicalised them.

Can't remember too many people being upset when Amrozi and his mates were executed.

The issue was many police were treating Amrozi like a hero and having photos taken with him outside of court

That was just unbelievable in my opinion and the reason I will never go back

I'll never go to Bali, it's a Clayton's holiday. Much rather go to Fiji, they're awesome hosts.

People I know that have been to both Fiji and Raratonga rave about Raratonga

Problem is the Mrs now refuses to fly since 9/11 :brick:

Unless we swim (and she hates swimming in the ocean ) and she gets seasick in boats

Maybe I should go alone

The average cost of a prisoner is $70,000 of tax payers money per year to look after them in Australia.

Drive past Parra park and see homeless blokes curled up in winter waiting for the food bus to come. Seriously why wouldn't you rather be in gaol? 3 meals a day, warm, Foxtel. Why do most of these people reoffend? Because they're better off.

I wish Australia had the death penalty for long time idiots who've been locked up for life or serious crime. Ivan Milat, the Anita Cobby murderers, as a tax payer are you happy to be feeding this scum.

Now these idiots in Bali got caught and Bali really have no choice but to show everyone they're serious. No one wants to cop it though because everyone knows how dodgy Bali is anyway. These guys knew perfectly well what they were doing and the punishment. Youth decision or not, I knew at 18 not to take drugs in or out of Bali or I could be shot.

As for terrorists being let out early. That's what Australia should actually be pissed off about and asking for these scumbags to be thrown back in.

We shouldn't be bagging other judicial systems though when ours is an absolute joke itself.
