The BENCH.....

….or Sheens use of it...

Sheens use of the bench is regularly criticized on the forum...I've seen it said it cost us the GF....Bored in the off- season I had a look at stats of some of the other teams and minutes they give their Bench players and even who they pick on the bench....

Surprisingly....The big 4 in Bennett, Smith, Cartwright and Bellyache...All use their benches and the minutes each replacement gets very similar to Sheens....

2 Bench players get reasonable minutes 1 gets ave and 1 gets mininal...

Also interesting was the stat that Saint Benny in 8 games this year did not use the full interchange of 10....

So I guess my question is

How should Sheens use his bench better?

I'm sure someone has the answers???????

<dream>14\. <insert prop="" here="">15\. <insert prop="" here="">16\. <insert prop="" back="" rower="" here="">17\.</insert></insert></insert></dream>

<reality>14\. <second rower="">15\. <second rower="">16\. <hooker>17\.</hooker></second></second></reality>

Seeing as our backrowers all play close to 80 minutes i'd like to see some props on the bench and maybe a utility that isnt a winger who can come on and have a similar impact to nathan fien. Or maybe mckinnon who if used properly could carve up tired forwards. I'd also love to see Flanagan on the bench i just don't know that we have room for flanagan and fulton in the same 17.
14\. Fifita
15\. Murdoch-Masila
16\. Fulton
17\. Flanagan /Moltzen/Mckinnon/Lui/Brown
Its a good headache to have

Hmm..so is it how he shld use the bench or who shld be on the bench?

Ummm..Much like Fraze above….

1\. interesting to get the views of the punters since it is a major criticism of how we play
2\. it is the off season. What else would you like to debate?

Use off and/or composition..

Mine would be..

14\. Andrew Fifita
15\. Simon Dwyer
16\. Jason Schirnack
17\. Bryce Gibbs

Galloway Farah Payten Fulton Ellis Heighington to start......Ellis and either Heighno or Fulton for 80...Gibbs for Payto 1st interchange, Dwyer for Keith 2nd (Barb is still growing), Fifita and Galloway go on for Gibbs and Fulton/Heighno close to halftime. Then in the 2nd Payten for Fifita, Gibbs for Dwyer. Schirnack for Heigno/Fulton with still a couple up the sleeve for injuries, resting or general run of play

As long as both wingers don't go down in the 1 game we should be sweet...

I want to see Akeripa given a go.

He was a handful for the Bulldogs at Leichardt a few weeks ago, consistency is what he needs to work on.

I don't mind Sheens' use of the bench except ofcourse playing someone for just 2 minutes. I guess I'm one of those people who thinks that interchanges depend on how the game pens out.

Given that we start with Galloway, Farah, Payton, Ellis, Fulton and Heighington; for mine, Fifita (Andrew), Dwyer and Gibbs pick themselves.

That only leaves the 17\. If we want to include a back, Brown deserves the spot, or maybe McKinnon for impact (if he is ever fit.) Otherwise, my view is that Fulton's presence can cover any injuries in the backs, thus affording a spot for another foward - Murdoch or Schirnak. Unless there are injuries, though, the 17 won't get much game time.

Bryce Gibbs is the best prop in the Country.

Gibbs has more minutes in him than any other frontrower in the NRL,so I would be starting with him. He would also be my first choice NSW SOO frontrower, with a big engine and a big workload it gives you extra bench options

when did we carry a hooker on the bench in 2010?

Yes I agree with both posters….

Gibbs and Payten can share starting...

As for Origin...Why would you pick Gibbs at that level when you can have built for Origin Mick Weyman's 12.5 mins of impact...really...Oh yeah Qld 5 NSW 0.......

You maybe waiting a long time for that to happen in WT colours…he is best served elsewhere, like Souths

no no not sowffs ' the career killers '. would love to see akeripa given a go in top grade at the tigers, reckon he would really benefit from playing in good company

Gibbs stepped up another level in his game during the later part of this season, hope he picks up next year where he left off this year. He is an asset to our pack.

If I undertand he question 1\. cover key positions of hb fb and hooker. 2 play impact forwards at the end of 1st 15 - and start of second half. 3\. Finish halves with the best you have. DO NOT REPLACE KEY FORWARDS WITH 15 TO GO
