The best football brain

PHIL Gould in my opinion has the best football brain going around.
Born 1958 (age 56–57)
First game with Penrith 1976.
Started coaching in1988.

He seems to adapt to the modern game . And still looks ahead to the future.
With a good approach to the modern game but still not loosing the good old foundations of rugby league.

He considers all spectrums of rugby league.
Doesn't lose aspects of football from Park football to Australia test football.
Good old-fashioned hard work. With basic structure and foundations from kids football right up to the CEO.
Who do you guys think has the best football brain in today's game.

Peter Sterling, would be a great asset to any coach.
Would be curious to see how he went at NRL level.
No doubt we will never see this as he is doing well with his media commitments.

Can't split Hasler or Bellamy

Players Wally Lewis ,Sterling , Ricky Stuart

I know this may sound simple , but the players that can see numbers quickly and activate their brains the quickest are usually the best

For me Sterling has an Unbelievable understanding of the game IMO.
The guy has no hair anyway to be stressed from Coaching but i think he would be an astute Coach .

Sterling himself has said he would make a terrible coach.

Because he probably makes just as much as a commentator without the stress of worrying your heads on the chopping block every week

Same as Lockyer ,Johns and Fittler

Michael Hagen would be up there as well , he did get the cane toads to 8 in a row …
Meninga's just the face of their origin campaign .

Would have to agree with Snapper on Gus. Whatever anyone feels about him as a Commentator, I have never seen anyone who has such a bank of knowledge on the game. And can get it across to players as he can, his ability to look at the overall picture in league is what makes him different to the others like Bennett and Co.
The only other person ( and I am not saying He is the most popular person going around). That I would put in the same category as Gould as far as football brain are concerned , would be Warren Ryan, while being extremely divisive at some times ,his knowledge of football and players ,And the ability to change the total game in his time was amazing
His one failing was, at times an inability to get it across to players the right way and his overbearing attitude to some players.
Both these people would probably agree that they were never the most naturally gifted players, and Gould made up for that by putting everything into what he did and learning from it.
The job that he has done with a down and almost out Panthers club is an example of what he is capable away from the field.
We haven't seen that from an ex player for a long while.
Besides anyone that the village idiot from the Telecrap dislikes must be ok. (By the way has anyone seen an apology to him yet from Buzz yet, for the crap he dumped on him at the start of the year)

Sure beats sending yourself greyer with every loss.

Gould, Johns and our very own Brett Kimmorley in recent times have great football brains. Pretty shocked he hasn't been offered a job somewhere.

Cam Smith could coach one day.

As far as coaches team coaches go it's hard to top Hasler, Bellamy, Bennett and Cleary. Robinson has also been very good.

Gould by far is the best in my opinion. Knows the game like the back of his hand.

I wonder how Gus would go coaching in this day and age though

He hates the new ways of the game as he has stated many times during games

He has proven he is very adaptive creature , but if he wasn't going to let his players get involved in the wrestle etc , could he find another way of being competitive ??

One of the most overrated players of all time

KS , you are completely off the mark with this call

I have never seen a bloke take the right options at the right times as much as Cam Smith

Better than Lewis or Sterling

Not saying he isn't good Happy. But give me Steve Walters, Kerrod Walters, Benny Elias and Robbie Farah, any day.
I rate Smith behind those guys with Buderus

I agree , although I'd think he would make a good player manager , doing dodgy deals .

Seems like he has fooled more than just the referees hobbo, so I'm sure he could manipulate well as a manager

Don't like him too much as a player or a person but smith makes the right decisions at the right time. Even the way he speaks in the pressos you can tell he's a big student of the game.

In saying that, I haven't heard or seen much of the people mentioned above.

Robbie farah is not much compared to him
