The cups

The Cox plate should be a cracker of a race with the winner coming from Pierro, More Joyous, Ocean Park & Green Moon but i give Proisir, Rekindled Interest, Ethiopia & Sincero all an outside chance. I like Pierro to remain unbeaten.

The Caulfield Cup i can't go past Glencadam Gold & i wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't lead & sits just behind the leaders, making a run at the 2000m mark. I'm surprised they have gone for Pumper to ride him after Berry rode it a treat last weekend.

The Cup i'll wait until after the Mckinnon & Caulfield Cup to decide who i'll back.

Having seen It's A Dundeel for the first time last saturday, i think it will win the VRC Derby.

On a side note, Francesca Cummani is one fine looking filly

It's a Dundeel looked very good in the Spring Champion. If he handles the Melb way he looks the winner. I'm guessing Gai thought the Caulfield Cup was a bit of a big race for Tom Berry first up. I will say this, I saw Berry on TVN (or maybe Sky) and he was a class act.

Well so far Ocean Park was gutsy and More Joyous was very flat. She had some excuses but offered very little. Piero up next.

Nash Rawiller… You'd think he would have learnt after screwing up on More Joyous but he does the same thing on Piero. 4-deep in a 7 horse field - just take the sit. Awful ride...

Yeah poor ride Yoss, I was thinking the same thing at the start when he was caught 4 wide, he still nearly got away with the win but the winner was too good.

He was but you can't do it at both ends over a mile in that class. Surely Nash knows the mile start at Caulfield is uphill so if you're pushing forward you're going to use a lot of energy. Did the same thing on More Joyous. He should have slotted over and then tried to make some ground in the run. Some horses don't like Caulfield and MJ got on the wrong hoof around the turn.

Both MJ and Piero should be better at the Valley. I expect Piero to get over to the rails at the Valley and sprint. Ocean Park is going to be tough to run down.

After MJ's tough run carrying 60 kilos, you would think it will depend how she pulls up after the run whether she starts in the Cox Plate in two weeks & is no certainty to start. Tom Waterhouse said Pierro has blown out to $2.80 from $1.85 & All Too Hard has come into $8 from $21 in the Cox Plate after beating Pierro.

WOW
Tim Gilbert said during the sports update on the news, that someone had $250,000 on Pierro today. Whenever I hear about these big bets, I wonder how much money do they actually have if they can afford to have a bet like that. Like in life, there are no certainties in sport.

Nothing worried me about MJ and Pierro other than the jockey's woeful performance. Gai oughta give Tommy Berry all the runs now.

MJ is better WFA and both were run poorly. I think MJ is way over at $9\. I do think that Green Moon will win though.

Not worried about More Joyous, but I wouldnt be surprised if Gai scratches Pierro from the Cox Plate now…

Very impressed with how SHAHWARDI finished off!!!

Does Corey Brown read speed maps? Shocking ride on Gatewood, got him stuck midfield behind plodders and spent the 1000-400 section going backwards.

Caulfield Cup 2012 Barrier Draw Announced

Early Caulfield Cup 2012 favourite Glencadam Gold will have to overcome a wide barrier if he is to keep his unbeaten record on Australian soil alive this Saturday.

Glencadam Gold has drawn wide for the Caulfield CUp
The Gai Waterhouse-trained import drew barrier 21, with another top fancy, Dunaden, the only horse to draw wider in barrier 22.

It comes as a hit to the Dunaden camp, with jockey Craig Williams stating earlier this week he was hoping for an inside barrier with the 2011 Melbourne Cup winner.

Also drawing wide is fellow Melbourne Cup winner Americain (19) who like Dunaden will be having his first start in the Caulfield Cup this weekend.

December Draw, who went in to last year’s race as favourite, has drawn barrier 12 which pleases trainer Mark Kavanagh.

“You don’t want to draw 22 and you don’t want to draw 1,” Kavanagh said.

“In the middle you can jockey for a position and get to where you want to be.”

Peter Moody has received a mix bag with his three Caulfield Cup runners, with Voila Ici drawing barrier 17, Sneak A Peak 10 and Brisbane Cup winner Lights Of Heaven receiving barrier eight.

Moody is not overly concerned by the wide barrier for Voila Ici and is confident his three charges are going into the race in good order.

“He [Voila Ici] could’ve been a bit prettier…but he’s a natural go forward horse and he’s got good gate speed.”

“Voila Ici’s form has been very good for this sort of race.

“Sneak A Peek has worked every bit as good as any of these horses at home including Manighar.

“I’m very pleased with my three.”

Luca Cumani may have lost Cox Plate runner Afsare to injury this morning but will be pleased following the Caulfield Cup barrier draw with My Quest For Peace receiving a favourable barrier two draw.

Other notable barriers include 2011 winner Southern Speed (14), last year’s Epsom winner Secret Admirer (11), the Jake Stephens-trained Alcopop (9) and four-year-old Zabeelionaire (1).

Pumper might have to cop a sit midfield & not lead how most people thought GC would race. Either way he might need a gem of a ride by pumper or need a bit of luck in running now but if you were going to back him, you will get better odds now.

Barrier draw certainly has made it interesting, add that the owners of Americain have spoken they won't run on a concrete track adding a bit of pressure to have the track watered down, be interesting to see if with the wide draw and a hard track they run him.

I think the plan will still be to go forward but hopefully JC is not as stupid as Nash Rawiller and takes a sit if he can't get in up front. I think the question is about value though - is GC really that much better than the French visitors who are proven in big events?

On face value no… But the interesting thing which I like about Glencadam is it looks and races like a fighter. In the past, when it has been challenged, its fought on to stay in front. It doesnt want to be beaten and I like that in a horse!

Its certainly a horse who knows where the line is and loves to get there first. I however have a question mark over the horses who its been beating and this is from someone who's been on it the whole way..

I really think the speed will be a good one in the CC and think it will suit the back markers. If Craig williams can get cover on Dunaden (even 3 wide cover) i think he will storm down the outside over the top of them, the other who im wary of is My Quest for Peace. I really think its an Internationals race to win.
