The enormity of '25 - crucial.

Our attack is shit,
Our defence sucks,
Our kicking is weak,
Our kick chase is pathetic,
Our discipline is very poor,
Our tactics are boring,
Our squad management is baffling,
Our preparation seems poor,
Our leadership non existent,
Our skills are mediocre
…..should I go on?
They are symptoms of our underlying problems mate.
When I go to the Doc with pain, I dont want him to just give me pain killers. I want him to diagnose what’s causing the pain.
I would love to see the faceless back room mob front up and take responsibility for their decisions.

Well I guess that's a starting point.

Our attack has improved quite a lot as the season has progressed. It looks like they are now playing with more freedom and Galvin is at least creating good shape particularly on the left when we have decent field position.
Our defence has gotten much worse as the season has progressed. The defensive resilience has dropped significantly which I believe relates to lack of morale and motivation stemming from the poor results.
Out kicking game is poor and you would hope it’s an area that gets plenty of focus. Galvin has shown some improvements in his kicking game, so it shows he is learning and looking to improve.
Our kick chase and effort to contest high balls is very poor, you would hope this is an area where our coaching staff continue to focus.
Our discipline is terrible, most of it stems from our defensive line speed and contact not being good enough and therefore losing the physical battle far too often. Again it’s a mindset as there has been a few occasions where we have fired up and shown we can be much more physical and aggressive when we want to. This is up to the coaching staff to ensure it happens much more often.
Our tactics may be a bit boring, but not a lot different to most other NRL clubs, the coaches cannot waive a magic wand and make players bust more tackles or get more offloads to create more opportunities. I’ve said a million times, we do not have enough players who are capable of regularly breaking tackles or running the ball harder. I don’t follow stats as I believe a lot of them are misleading, but I am certain we would have to be a long last for tackle breaks and pretty close to the bottom for offloads.
I am happy with Api is our on field leader and we have a couple of good young emerging leaders in Galvin and Sam Fainu. We need more players to fire up and lead by example when the going gets tough.

I have thought of this so many times but have dismissed it because I think it is such an obvious thing to do and that it may have already been done, but then have thought, maybe Benji would be too proud or stubborn to even consider it.

I know it doesn't necessarily fix any of our problems but I would be talking to Luai, our marquee signing, and asking him what he wants or needs to help him over the next season or two, I would of course include Api in the conversation.

Particular positions that they see as being a priority to have strengthened, possible players that might be targeted and so on.

Even if we couldn't get all that sorted out, at least they would feel that we are doing what ever we can to help them and that their opinions are valued.

hank37w you would hope that is a no brainer and Benji is already consulting Luai along with Api in regards to player recruitment etc moving forward.
Based on API’s comments when we signed his cousin Turuva, he was heavily involved in that signing.

But that has been true for the last 4-5 coaches

To be fair to Luai .. I would expect him to be concentrating on Penrith winning another comp this year …I don’t think he would be worrying to much about the Tigers specific deficiencies … probably take that up when they start paying him in November…

I suppose Wayne Bennett's not thinking at all about next season at Souffs until 1st November either.

The question was what areas the coach can work on.

Next year if I saw a dramatic improvement in the following would be a very good start:

A clear development pathway plan for the kids to cycle through the grades in the viewed position. Not just play zyx position and skip through the grades.

Game plan & structure the same through NRL to Flegg = coaching staff interlinked & NRL coaching invested into the kids pathways.

We run onto the ball, Direct running, Attacking formations & players supporting each other. None of this sideways, turn at the line, pass to a flat footed player guess and see stuff.

Following through with intent for our Kick and chase every game.
