The flawed NRL Ladder.

I've been thinking about this lately and I honestly don't understand why the NRL ladder is still based on competition points rather than win percentage.

At the moment, we get some pretty strange situations where a team with a better win-loss record can sit below a team with a worse one. For example, the Cowboys are currently 8 wins and 5 losses, yet sit below the Sharks, who are 6 wins and 5 losses.

Personally, I'd love to see the ladder ranked by win percentage like in the NBA. Ive used AI to mock up what it would look like.

Totally agree and then you would add ave points for and against as opposed to total - would remove the stupidity of bye points (getting 0 or 1 also doesent work).

I think it's better to apportion byes evenly. It's not good enough that some teams have had two byes and others have had none. No need to give points for byes either.

The draw generally has been terrible ... amateur hour. How can the NRL justify three Qld teams having an away game during Magic Round in Brissie?

Then again, if it was up to me I'd also blow up the bunker, scrap 6 agains, and give touchies authority like they had before they got too scared to make calls.

yes it does seem stranger this year than others, i think i heard that AI was used to develop the ladder and clearly no one cross referenced it and AI still needs some level of human oversight.

Case in point, your AI output image shows Tigers played 13 games when we've only played 11 althought the win percentage calculations are correct. Theres a few errors like that.

It is wild for Storm that they get their first bye next week and quite a few have had 2.

Yeah I made a thread about the stupidity of scheduling byes a few days back. Storm and Cowboys completely dudded. Apparently Storm get their first one next week then play one week and get another bye the week after! Ridiculous.

It all sorts out in the end. I could also say that the teams with less wins and more byes. Haven’t had the opportunity to win more games due to byes!
