Plenty of talk about Brown, Woods, Galloway, Taupau and Blair playing up front, but these 2 are the real smokeys.

Ava was one of the form front rowers in the competition
the last month of 2013 and Potter has already singled out Buchanan as someone he is expecting big things from as he has put on some size.

Our front row depth is great, and i dont care who gets left out, i just hope Potter picks whoever is doing the best job.

I dunno about how 'gret' the f/r depth is.

Taupau is unknown really imo….he has shown he is capable in first grade, thats about it imo. Still a work in progress.

So too is Brown...lots of potential yet still very raw, another inexperienced unknown commodity.

Galloway...he'd have to be triple figure odds to play the season without injury.

Blair I really dont believe is a front rower....hes just there cause theres no where else for him at WTs.

I think Ava & Jack may get a lot of game time next year

Ava could be a monster with a full off season with the first grade squad

If Jack can put some size in his legs and get some leg drive he will be a smokey , he has a good motor and will have learnt a lot in his first season

I think that is my only issue with Jack , he was getting felled too easily in tackles and then getting dominated which was giving the defensive line time to set

That is a very realistic assessment of where we stand with front rowers. Buchanan, with a bit more muscle on his frame looks a certainty in the 17 based on his great debut year. I would be surprised if Taupau doesn't measure up but that is based purely on his regular spot in the Dog's 17 and nothing else.

I would like our most forgotten front rower in James Gavet to be the smokey that demands selection in the seventeen. That should mean we are well placed if he can force one of those named earlier in the thread out of the side.

From all reports Gavet was going really well and impressing last pre-season before his accident, and most probably would have started the year with reasonable trial form. He has that bit of mongrel we are lacking and did not have a chance at the dogs to show his U20 potential there.

From what I heard he was lazy when he played nsw cup from his return back end of season. Had a lot of work to do if he is to make our 17

That makes sense , why wouldn't have Potter given him a run v Saints , even off the bench to see how he would go in top grade

Buchanan was the surprise packet of 2013 … He performed very well.
Looking forward to seeing Ava playing next season ... Looks to have loads of potential.

Looking forward to seeing how both players turn out for 2014\. Buchanan's biggest problem was his go forward and strength in 2013 - great motor could was occasionally brushed off in defence and wasn't the best when hitting the line in attack. These are two areas where I think he will improve a lot in 2014\. I think his playing weight will be closer to 110kg and he'll be stronger as well.
