The gesture

Demps, there's nothing wrong with having a beer with the opposition after the game,it is good sportsmanship and you can still have plenty of BEEF during the next bout,it's what makes Rugby League such a great game..healthy rivalry….

I'm pretty sure a couple of the Kiwi players used the exact same gesture towards the end of the Haka, so I guess it's ok to use it in that context, but not when Taupau did it?

That is a part of that particular Haka Flip

Kapa o pango I think it is called

Exactly, so why is it a big deal? No one worried when they did it then. Marty was obviously just reiterating that part of the Haka back to Sam

Remember when the All Blacks first did it to our Wannabies

Most of the Wannabies wive's and Mum's had to pull out the stain remover that night

Correct me if I am wrong but the throat slitting gesture is actually a traditional part of the Hakka. If they are allowed to perform a tribal war dance before the game to psyce themselves up then he should be able to channel that energy throughout the game. I only wish Marty stuck his tongue out whilst making the gesture, I cannot possibly think of anything more badass.

Parker and the rest of the Queenswhingers need to buy a large box of tissues. Marty is popular because he doesn't play like a soft 15 yr old girl…bring back the biff

Yes

lol at Parker. Absolutely gutless and embarrassing performance from oz (exc Thurston and Woods.), he should be quite and worry about the dangerous tackle made by his mate Thaiday.

Hope these Aussies take the same attitude into origin….. nsw might be a chance.

In the no punch era i'm quite happy with how Taupau is carrying himself. No Dane Luarie or Gavet thats for sure.

These Broncos and Storm players are an embarrassment to the Roos jersey. Didnt his teammate Hodges do the same thing in an origin match.

Go get em Marty.

That was the softest australian performance I've ever seen.
To the blokes on here who think that aggression is a dirty word, it looks like the Kangaroos have signed a non-aggression pact with the Kiwis.
Only problem was no one told the Kiwis pack, particularly
Taupau.
Maybe we can get him to Coach some of that into the Roos pack.
No one minds is a team has a go, but most of them, including the Koala bears in the side were pitiful

Parker, I'd say your mate Thaiday's choker hold was not a good look for the game.

Glad Marty is a Tiger & can't wait for him to rip in this Friday.

LOL I wonder what the kids in the stands thought of that lame performance from the Roos yesterday Corey.

And gee whiz, putting a guy in a headlock is a GREAT look for the game. Sure there's tons of new fans because of Thaiday's tackle.

What a toss.

Spot on GB. Hodges has done it before, wonder what precious Parker thought of it then? The big difference is Hodges is a blouse and it wouldn't have scared anybody. The Jillaroos would have played with more guts than what the Kangaroos did on Sunday.

A few years ago when the All Blacks first performed Kapa o Pango to the Wallabies, there were complaints and the IRB banned us from doing the throat slit at the end from then! :crazy

Regardless of everybody's love for Taupau and dislike of Thaiday (myself included) it was a stupid thing to do.
What's wrong with looking him in the eye and telling him what you want him to hear.
I'll go further and say the throat slitting in the haka is just as over the top and ridiculous.
It's gone past a traditional, cultural, gesture to an intimitadory insult.
Imagine the hooha if the Aussies laughed in their faces and slit their own throats after they 'performed' it.

You're right Flippedy - I replied to the original article in the SMH with the same - the NZers used the gesture as part of the Haka and that's ok - hypocritical sore losers.

Of course it's intimidatory, it's a war dance!
