The key to beating Parra

…and the reason why we always lose against them, is being able to stop their offloads.

If we defend well and limit their offloads, we will win this match. The problem is, without doubt the worst aspect of our defense is limiting offloads and that is Parramatta's biggest strength.

You look at their side - they have Hayne, who yes is an excellent player and like a secondary half the way he chimes into their attack and creates play. But Robson is VERY ordinary, Mortimer IMO isn't fantastic and Matthew Keating is average and SLOW. That's your four key positions and IMO they have one standout and another who isn't bad (Mortimer).

When they get close to the line it just seems like a hot potato and see what Hayne can do. They offload and offload and good teams stop it, we don't ever seem to be able to. Parra often try to be too tricky and and score every set instead of just putting on the pressure and at worst get another set of six. You limit their offloads and they don't have much, Hayne aside.

If we defend like we did for most of today's match, they are going to rape us with their offloads again and they'll put on a cricket score.

Offloads hurt us all the time. One of the Roosters players got one away today with four players making the tackle. Its a good tactic against the Tigers because they struggle to recover in defence and oposition teams make big metres off the back of them.

especially need to shut down fui fui and mateo who always seem to carve us up. will struggle without ellis…

Hybrid is right. It's always the Eels second phase play that has killed the Tigers. The Tigers were right in it with the Eels in the second round last year and it was the second phase for the Mortimer try, followed by Hayne's chip and chase which eventually snuffed out the Tigers finals chances.

Parra don't have the biggest forward pack but they do work hard. The Tigers MUST tighten their defence and number up accordingly if they are to win. The Eels don't boast an awesome halves combo but they are made to look good when the Eels forwards start offloading. We have some good defenders in Gibbs, Fulton and Payten returning so hopefully this helps tighten up the ruck.

 I was going to say the same thing..so I will…follow St George Illawarra

One thing i noticed last week what the Roosters did to us was find the pocket directly behind the ruck where Heighington was defending. They saw him getting back into the line too slowly and with his back turned and forced him to make consecutive tackles. Quick PTB allowed them to trap him offside and with his back turned which opened up a hole as wide as the Grand Canyon for them to score an easy try. Full credit to Heighno for his workrate, but Sheens really needs to give him a rest in the middle 20\. Otherwise this is where Parramatta are at their strongest, and will exploit the Tigers defence, especially with their 2nd phase play which WT have struggled to contain for the past 4-5 years.

Put simply, if we can't arrest some of their second phase we will we on the canvass again against these guys. I though we did a decent job on Hayne for long periods at the SFS last season. Great players will always find a way, you just have to limit their damage. What we can control is wrapping up the football.

I always scratch my head when we play Parra cause i look across the park and i see alot of match ups that favour us. I mean they have some average players and some average defenders. I am sure we will rack up some tries not wide, but can we defend that?

It's almost when Chelsea play Arsenal at the moment. Arsenal play better football, but Chelsea bully them in their meetings. They carry an air of arrogance. Parramatta know they have the wood on us and they play accordingly. They play carefree. They don't rate us and we look to be carrying the scars of past losses at times.

We took it too them at the SFS last season and couldof been 16-18 up after half an hour. Injuries de railed us that night . Im really worried about what we are going to come up with after the 20 minute mark, when Galloway and the starting forwards get tired. This is when Parra could put on a few tries if we don't get the balance right. I am actually glad Moimoi is starting because of this.

I thought the same thing. Rather than Galloway going off for us, and fatboy coming on for them, they'll porbbaly leave at the same time, which helps.

It seems like 50% of the points we concede are off the back of a Penalty. If we play more disciplined football, and also limit offloads, we win.

Its been that way for years now. Offloads and second phase kill us, not just with Parra. Manly did it at will in their first half against us too. I'm just not sure we can combat it.

If nothing else we need to do the same with the ball. It looks like we are trying to offload more this season. Galloway especially. We haven't done much of it in the past. Four feet Fifita can add some offloading ability.
