I just can't fathom this generation of players.

It's the same with this current generation "it's all about me"
The same with younger people these days they want a 5 bedroom 3 car garage house with the 4wheel drive the wife's Audi in the driveway the speed boat jet Ski and motorcycle and they want it now.

Never heard any of the younger generation asking for that. I have heard them ask for a 3 bedroom house that doesn't leak and that doesn't require 1 and half hour commute each day. Problem is all these properties have been bought up as investment properties by the most selfish generation in history - boomers. The same generation that now has somehow conned this govt to give them a windfall to downsize.

That's not a con, it's to stop them outbidding young families who want to buy houses.

The con is negative gearing.

Both are.

Not about outbidding. Belief is by encouraging them to downsize, it will free up the housing market. Its misconceived for a number of reasons. But when you have a govt afraid to make the correct policy decision - remove neg gearing - they will come up with some truly awful policies to make it look they like they are doing something.

Anyway back on topic. These young footballers are horrible human beings.

Now this sounds like a sensible and logical position and well expressed by Baze. I must say, however, as a relative newcomer to this forum some of the comments made by some contributors border on the vitriolic or am I just mistaking vitriol for banter?

Stopping foreign ownership will fix the housing price crisis. The Govt is putting in a limit of 50% ownership in new apartment blocks so its not always boomers buying multiple places. BTW I only have 1 house. Personally I would ban all foreign ownership.

I agree…walking through Hornsby and coming across a chinese real estate stall written in mandarin and being unable to even ask them for information because I'm not Chinese really takes the cake.....

So few foreigners are buying houses. The problem is simple - Australians spend every cent they can on outbidding the next person.

2% of the total market. Don't let facts get in the way of your hysteria though.

I'll add that rich overseas buyers including Chinese probably don't even affect the houses that you are buying. They are probably more likely to buy in suburbs like Vaucluse where the average price is like $5 million.

I don't quite think hysteria is the word for it…...

So 2% makes all the difference does it. The other 98% isn't the problem. I think hysteria is actually an understatement.

McIlwrick keeps stripes

Tigers hooker Matt McIlwrick has attracted some interest from Parramatta for next season, but it looks like he's about to sign a new deal to remain at the joint venture. McIlwrick was originally signed as a back-up option to Matt Ballin but his impressive start to the season means he's now the club's No.1 hooking option. The club also has a huge opinion of youngster Jacob Liddle, who appears to be close to finalising a contract extension.

Southern Tiger, you do not know what you are talking about. I am a so called "selfish" boomer. I have worked all my life from the age of 141/2\. Saved for a small house, commuted to work by train and bus etc. A lot of shift work, starting at 10pm, 4pm, 6am etc. Saved again for kids and superannuation so as not to be a burden on future generations ( including my own kids and grandchildren ).

I have now retired and enjoying what we have saved for over the years. Stop bashing people that you know nothing about. I do not know how old you are, but maybe your parents are also boomers.

Advice to young people, save your money. Less coffee and grog, no gap year, no big flash wedding, no double story four bedroom houses. You can get along without a pool or media room and even two cars. If you cannot afford a house in the city in which you live, think about moving to somewhere that you can afford. Look after yourself and leave others to look after themselves.

Probably more garbage than fact… Tabloid trash
"embroiled "" bullied "" deadline" "rift"
yawn

You're onto something Ink.
Like every time that a journo has a story about Wests Tigers, instead of spellcheck etc, it pops into a special WT version where only lead words of the ilk of "embroiled "" bullied "" deadline" "rift" can be written.
Freedom of the press?
More like Revenge of the Wannabee Someones!

One of the other threads has McIlwrick poised to agree to new terms with Tigers, so this one sorted itself rather quickly.

Matt McIlwrick & Jacob Liddle are set to re-sign with WT (Sydney Morning Herald)

Spot on Col, my dad always told me not to buy things I can't afford or don't need.
