The Lurker: Never a dull moment in Tiger town

Spoke to my source and this is utter crap. As I understand it they are trying to extend Mcilwricks contract and he wants to stay as he's finally found a permanent first grade position. It seems he just wants assurances that he will stay in first grade as he doesn't want to go back to being a cup player. Also wants to be paid as a regular first grade player which is fair enough. They will come to an agreement, it's still in the early stages.

Nice 👍 thanks Baze

How did we end up with such an ungrateful pack of players at the same time? Theres got to be more to it. **Possible an us v them mentality (players v management) was fostered at the end of last year. Its the ghost of the Farah decisions.**

Or perhaps it's the club just reaping what it has sown? Or it's just another piece of rubbish journalism to stoke the fire again? Who really knows.

Its a bit from every category. Theyve all played their part.

He's 25 and been on 120k contracts his whole life…Poor history with injuries. I won't hold a grudge it he chases the money elsewhere.

Lurker must be a CNN Fake news reporter. Apparently McIlwrick only got his contract in the first place because of Putin.

I reckon this is complete rubbish. Doesn't make sense for either party. Why would we put a deadline on him? He wouldn't be taking much cap space and if he decided to leave we could promote Liddle and find a suitable 2nd hooker reasonably easily. Why would he play games like that, when he has jumped from club to club? Surely finding a home would be important to him and he's getting regular 1st grade at the Tigers.

Agreed.
I would trust any user on this forum before The Lurker. Just because you can make your own website and give yourself an alias doesn't make you reliable. Not sure if the Lurker has even reached the lofty heights of a 1% strike rate yet.

Tough to make ends meet with just $120K over 6 seasons since you turned 19 :unamused:

My favourite part of the article was where MMc was nominated as "one of the most promising hookers in the game". I think you lose any claim to such a mantle when you debuted 6 seasons ago and have played for 4 clubs.

Jacob Liddle is a promising hooker, MMc is a young journeyman who has finally found a home.

so far he hasn't shown anything that'd suggest otherwise but it's only up to him. he's gotta be the best hooker in the club to stay in first grade.

Yeah though you're not around in Footy forever

It would take dingo almost eight years to earn that working at toys r us.

Milky, do u rly think McIlwrick was earning 120k playing for Newtown and the mounties ?

NRL lurker is a poor mans RLWmole and that in itself should say enough for what this is worth

RLWmole is hit and miss but is at least a journalist and doesn't rely on scoops and gossip from his twitter followers like the lurker.
Lurker is not credible at all.

Milky you will learn that is such a bollocks line from footballers.

Yes their careers are short, but what do they expect, to work for 15 years then retire for life? Most schmoes in this world work from 20-25 until 65-70, read 50 years, because they don't earn enough money to retire early.

If a footballer doesn't make enough money when he retires at 32, take up another job, that's what everyone else does. Redundancy, retrenchment, termination of contracts - real world risks for most people.

If you genuinely can bank $100K for 10 years in footy, you are ahead of the average Australian who earns $81.9K p.a.

I'm not saying you shouldn't maximise your earnings and working satisfaction, everyone deserves that, but if you do not pull enough money, that's just tough luck.

Yep, i agree. Especially considering the NRL ensures you have a back up plan i.e Tertiary Studies
