The Madge factor has Marshall torn between signing off and playing on

@851 I think it's more he doesn't rate Reynolds tbh. Or more Reynolds is not Maguire's sort of half. Remember preseason when madge said he wanted Josh to work on his ball playing. Madge has always wanted his halves to be ball players. Reynolds is not a ball player. He is not what madge wants. Reynolds and gamble are both runners. That's why one has gone and I expect that the other will too.

I would really like to think that is wrong, as I would like to think our coach could coach a bloke who has won an origin series and played in grand finals at 6, but you may be right.

@TieDye We had a pretty fair one with Chris Lawrence and with Ayshford made a good pairing. Tuiaki on the wing was a bonus.

Yes, you're right, Lawrence went alright.

Good comparison.

I’m with 851, if Reynolds is fit enough to play first grade he should be our number 6. This year he’s only played 2.5 games and was man of the match in two of them. Even Madge said he brings enthusiasm to the whole team. Reynolds is always first in the kick chase.

I don’t mind the coach giving Reynolds extra time in reserves to get match fit but he has to be in our top grade.

Anyway, I expect the Broncos to make a play for Benji next year the way their halves have been playing, lol.

Brooksys only had 4 lb assists from 127 line engagements this year so we might need benji (5/46) til his 40 odd, as the last 30 mins on Friday night showed.

That highlight reel!

@happy_tiger Yes he did. He was very, very good in attack. Realistically he has always been a poor defender.

Two problems with his attack at the moment i think. One is he is too good for the players around him. Put Mitchell outside him the other night and we have a couple more tries. Second, i think he struggles to play the full 80. Work that one out!!

It was damn refreshing either way to see the boys put the shift on and start making the defence make some decisions.

Other than enthusiasm, what does Reynolds offer that Benji hasn't got covered? Enthusiasm can be introduced from a younger and much cheaper player. The Roosters and other big clubs would have moved him to the UK by now.

Better running game. Defense and short kicking game about the same.

@gallagher It is not a level comparison because we are comparing a player receing $850k to one receiving far less. You take Marshall every day of the week and this is his what, third week in CC?

Reynolds' defence has not lived up to the expectations I had of him and certainly I would not promote him ahead of Marshal on that basis. Marshall's kicking game is in a different league to Reynolds and the former does enough with his running game to worry the strong Roosters' defence. Marshall every time.

Yea its incredible - definitely the most exciting player in the last 20 years. Makes one wonder what heights he would have reached without all the shoulder problems.

Reynolds didn’t win two MOMs by just being enthusiastic.

I think the short kicking is very similar. Benji does have the big spiral bombs, but they get caught most if the time. I don't think benji has a running game at all. Did he take the roosters line on? I think defenses just sit back and see who he is gonna pass to. I'd have Reynolds but not by much.

Nor do you play in grand finals or win origins.

Benji has been very good this year. He’s better than Reynolds best. Unfortunately for Reynolds injuries have crippled him he’s a shell of what he was a few years ago. He’s not better than a 300 game Marshall and paid 5x the contract money.

Madge has to play the best players atm it’s Benji and strategically Reynolds can choose to stay in reserves and collect coin or move on. At worst Reynolds is cover and he may yet prove the starting 5/8. I don’t see it his body is failing and it’s nearly 3 years since he has played effectively:

I don't know what is going on with Reynolds but the NRL team has done remarkably well when you take into account the salary cap dollars absent because of injury? Something has to give shortly because this cannot continue.

Even at Reynolds best he was only worth half of what we are paying him. He was never an origin standard 5/8, and there is a reason he got bumped pretty quickly after that series.

It is one of the most horrendous signings in the history of the NRL in terms of price tag. It is up there with the huge Daniel Mortimer contract after 2011.
