The Australian media is diabolical
The current articles surrounding the olympics are just apalling
The commentry around climate change, assylum seekers is inaccurate and sensationalist appealing to the lowest common denominator
Do yourself a favour and refuse to purchase any of it

I wish the abc had a newspaper. Until then I'll keep reading the articles on their app.

Not exactly a newsflash there. For decades the media has pandered to the highest bidder and the political parties that are best for the media. It's an international phenemenon thats decades old.

Just read as much as you can from both biased views and you can piece together the actuality yourself between the two.

…....are a bunch of scum sucking parasitic nematodes who deserve to be exterminated from every corner of the planet. If the media didn't exsist, the world would be a nicer place. We'd probably even see world peace

And to think I wanted to be a journalist when I was young, but I couldn't be bothered going to uni at the time. Probably a good move in hindsight because none of you would talk to me

Ahh but madunit this would involve "critical thinking" something that the majority of the population lacks

The media knows that too, thats why there's no feel or need to improve or raise standards.

It may seem as boring viewing, but the inquiry into the News of the World newspaper revealed just how deeply ingrained the media is in politics, to the degree that they actually play a more important role in who gets elected than the actual policies of the politicians themselves.

Lol, i did study it & got a qualification in journalism. If you're happy to be a [This word has been automatically removed] to the highest bidder with no moral fabric in your being, then its a great job.

I lasted just under a month. When i saw how one writer did 'research'. I loved the research aspect the most. To see that it is practically non-existant was enough for me.

'we don't sell newspapers, we don't get paid'

Frontline used to be a comedy show to me. Now its a reality show.

I'm currently studying journalism and I see no major problem with the media.

I say "major" because, well, what do you expect? The ABC and SBS are the only networks broadcasting news for no profit. Hence, they will be the most balanced.

Seven, Nine, Ten, Telegraph, Herald, 2GB, 2UE, etc. ALL run for profit. Which means they need to sustain a large audience. Nothing sustains an audience like controversy.

These networks running for profit, what they show is dictated by their audience. An indepth piece on Julian Assange will bore people. Showing that you'll pay $10 because of the carbon tax? People relate to that, it affects them, even if its mundane news, and they're more likely to eat it up.

I have no idea what you complain about. Italy's media was owned by it's Prime Minister. China doesn't have any rival news agencies, they use the one the government controls. The US….that's all kinds of retarded. The media there have proper smear campaigns. I'm talking about a guy who was running for presidential candidacy being IGNORED by the media. That's the kind of %$#* they have to deal with over there.

Here? Our media is just fine. We have no real right to complain.

I follow Steve Mascord on twitter, mainly for the rugby league news, but it is interesting to see what he has to say about journalism. Here are a few recent tweets I could find:

"Never been easier to be a journalist or a musician (or photographer), never been harder to get paid for it. "

"journalism will be like a walkathon. Go get sponsors "

"Newspapers should have been regarded as a public utility, not a business, right from the start but s-one had to pay for that printing press "

"The 200-year-old model for reporting has a built-in flaw which is now killing journalism after a long gestation: it's called advertising."

"there will be a tipping point where journalism is valued again. By then, however, we may all be in shackles with our mouths sewn shut "

"Good journalism is as important to society as running water and electricity. Don't believe me? You'll be thirsty and in the dark pretty soon "

"Part of reason we are in this mess is media proprietors blurring the line between editorial and commercial & turning evthing into "content" "
