The much fabled structure

Don't get me wrong the team is not choc full of talent. I expected them to be bottom 4 this season so maybe i should be happy with these respectable losses on the scoreboard.

Any team in 2015 with plodders like Lawrence, Halatau, Richards, Galloways plus some kids was never going to set the world alight. I am not expecting them to win the comp or even make the finals.

However what are they working towards? Where is the team work? Where is the combination play between certain players? Where is the improving in any department 10 round in? How exactly is this team building to win a comp in the next 2 or 3 years like the media keeps trotting out?

We looked a hell of a lot more threatening under Potter and that team was often injury ravaged. There can not be any excuses in this regard this year. We have been full strength and looking worse with each passing week.

Taylor talks about getting to certain spots on the field. Maybe that is what it is all about? Getting to certain spots through 5 one out hits up and a bomb. The lack of people pushing up for an offload makes me think offloads are banned. The lack of the use of tedesco for an inside balls makes me think combination play between the halves and fullback is banned. The lack of Farah trying to create makes he think his job is just to catch and pass which he is making heavy whether of.

The team looks devoid of any real threat, guile or combination. Taylor seems to have stripped everything back. Maybe he is working towards some grand plan but it is hard to see what exactly that is other then try and grind and stay in the contest and hope the other teams shoots itself in the foot. It worked against Parramata and Gold Coast so maybe that is what he is working towards. Its not exactly inspiring.

The Knights wre very ordinary today and there to be beaten. However we did not threaten to make a line break unless Moses got some broken play and made something up. We looked dangerous then. Other then that i saw 25 mid field bombs and lots of hit ups with no support play. No real set plays or questions asked.

The effort is there and they look like they are trying. Taylor needs to let them play some football because putting up 12 points every week and hoping to grind games out is not going to work with this team.

With a team already looking out of contention to be playing this brand of football for the rest of the year will make it a very long and dull winter. Farah had his legs crossed and looking at the ground during the half time team talk. Didn't exactly look like he was too worried about it all.

Anyway, bottom line it is an average team with plenty of holes it it but they can play more football then this. Its very predictable and ineffectual.

Good post Eddy. Totally agree. Lots of changes needed.

The problem lies at the feet, or should I say the hands, of the guy with the number 9 on his back. How do you expect halves to be able to do anything when they are getting slow ball a metre behind them every tackle - thats when it actually gets thrown in the air and not on the ground.

The sad reality is that Farah, as much as he tries, just doesn't have good enough service to be a first grade dummy half anymore. His passing this year has been abysmal. Attempts by some on this forum to still compare him favourably to Smith are laughable.

IMO we will not be a competitive team until Robbie retires. I hate saying this because until 2011 he was my favourite player in the game.

See if the attack improves when Robbie's in Origin.

Lol, AHX…We need to change the way we attack, mix it up a bit. Not the team

Me and the Missus (Knights supporter) were watching the game yesterday & we both said "this one of the most boring , slow & mistake riddled games you have seen is a long time".
The Tigers were absolutely woeful…. no creativity in attack, our kicking game is a joke & the one-out hit ups are predictable. Also , virtually no off loads , so no second phase play.
JT's game plan is a joke & defensively we are pathetic.
Its gunna be a loooooooong season.....................

Playing structured and staying in the grind keeps us in games every week

Hopefully they will step their playing style once they iron out the kinks

As I said yesterday , we still struggle with the basics We drop numerous high balls , passes miss the mark , can't stick the ball behind the locks feet in a scrum , abysmal kick chase , lack of self discipline penalty wise

How would we go if we brought in complicated games plans or tried to play off the cuff ??

We didn't deserve the win yesterday

Thread after thread about player x not going very well.

In almost most cases they player in question is being asked to do something that hasnt been a natural part of his game coming through the grades.

At what point do the fans give the players a break and look at the man directing them to play that way?

At the game Yesterday & hardly any of the Pigs were running on to the ball on our set of six, Most of them were flat footed bar a couple. As for Sirro, He takes a hit up & you don't see him for ten minutes, Hes not the only one, We should have Lawrence in the 2nd row because that's how Taylor is using him. As for some of them im stuffed as I don't know what they are doing & I don't think they do either, I really don't know where our next win is coming from.

The players deserve to cop it but obviously the coach is hopeless. He seems to be coaching them to hit it up in a vanilla fashion until we get to their 20 metre line. Then we are allowed to pass it out wide or put in a grubber.

Its not going to cut it. We need a coach who can put on some plays.

The WTs this year are like a bunch of primary kids moving to high school..
The fun things have been replaced by harder work, simple instructions prior, are now projects and assignments….this is the next level and to be successful everyone of them has to step up..JT is their teacher,he has a structure in place and the team has to adapt to that stucture..this is their assignment...so far they get a c minus....however if they are struggling with the structure JT has to readjust that structure to let the team play a more fluent, suitable game suited to their own talents as a team....

I can see, just as many others can, that the halves are going to be targeted by every team in the comp..they will get hammered because they have a "star in the making reputation"and the other teams won't allow them the space..they must create the space and playmaking themselves...

The forwards work hard by running one out for 4/5 and then the bomb, which every team now knows what's coming, find some grass and vary the last play option would be good..

Farah has stepped back as he was told, but he also must lead by example, when he sees the other players are under pressure he must make decisions that will release that pressure, not create more..he has been around for long enough to know how games are played..

Finally JT has got to let this team play to its potential, let them off the leash to see how they do perform off their own skills and ability....we have nothing to lose by that...
\
\
Most of you probably are saying old TT is having a rant again, well I'm only saying what I see and feel, the Knights were on the back foot several times yesterday and we could of put them away..only wish the young ones could have been allowed to play what was infront of them....not to a stale stagnant structure......end of spew......

Lack of speed is holding us back, we are big enough, but lack speed and raw power. Sending plodders on one out missions against any team will get you nowhere. As their are no players on our books at present who could replace the plodders, we are highly unlikely to turn things around in a hurry. Lets hope our football manager who came with a reputation as the salary cap guru can find some serious cap space so we can try attract some quality cattle to our club.

Its obvious that we need some speed out wide. It was also obvious last year. Its not a salary cap issue why we don't have these players either. Its poor recruitment and retention.

People keep saying our defence is better, but I'm not seeing it. Teams seem to compress us at will in the middle and spread the ball wide for soft tries. Our wingers are defending too much open space and are forced to make intercept attempts on a regular basis.

Our defence is just as bad if not worse than it has ever been.

Taylor will not change his structure he has told anyone that will listen about it..if he does his credibility is shot and his authority will be undermined. It is one of those things you play by the sword and you…...

I miss the entertainers Wests Tigers. You know, the team that lets in 30 points but scores 32 points to win the game. Ok we still got flogged every fourth game but some of the exciting tries we scored were worth gold.

Now we have structure.

Mid-field bombs are designed to put wingers and fullbacks under pressure to catch in their own quarter but we seldom put pressure on them by attacking the ball.

Brooks and Moses were stars in the U20's but NRL defensive structures have brought them down to earth.

I always wanted the old flair with new dogged defence. We don't have either atm
