Just thought I'd revisit this, after looking at the replay for the Ferguson sideline prior to Parra's first try. My memory was jogged by the press conference where a reporter asked Madge.
What I will say is that Tigers are entitled to defend the errors, whether they are their own or errors by the refs, and it's disappointing that you can point to a single mistake that then leads to a raft of points. In this instance - try from kick, followed by kick off out on full, then weak D to allow Takairangi to score again. Defend that first mistake and the other stuff doesn't happen.
And to consistently play finals footy you need to win DESPITE bad calls.
HOWEVER two weeks in a row where touchies missed feet on touchline and Bunker seems disinterested in over-ruling. I don't quite get the rules on this, because they'll happily over-rule a mistake regarding ball dead in-goal (e.g. over-turning a goal-line drop-out into 20m restart), but not a sideline error. In both instances isn't the ball out of play and technically a stoppage in which the bunker can over-rule?
It seems to me the touchies are so obsessed now with the "planting of the foot" when a winger attempts to score, that they miss the back foot. Joey Manu last week was slight but clear - back foot momentarily brushes the line.
Ferguson on Sunday - his back foot clearly swipes the line and then his whole hip is touching the turf whilst he is still touching the football. The commentators all said on replay it still looked he went out, but then moved on with it. But it's a very large mistake in the context of any match, esp one tied 4-4.
Sorry for dark snaps, Kayo drops the brightness when I move off-screen to capture.
