I think we should invest a bit in assets.

Buy a couple of boarding houses, affiliate with WSU or UNSW, offer kids from NZ.or SE Brisbane scholarships and free accommodation. Partner with construction companies, get them jobs, get them to work and become professional.

Have dozens of kids eating, living, studying and playing together.

I know we are probably doing something like that but not to the extent that we should be.

Hopefully the houses appreciate in value, the players live and breathe football. Get them away from the comforts of living in their family home.

Melb, Dogs and Penrith definitely do something like that.

Eastsi have been buying property up for a decade.

Roosters may have done more than us 10 years ago but again that's what the goal should be.

How many of our pathways kids have had other jobs other than footy?

All high level sporting organisations do it and hopefully we are too, or looking to do it.

If we are making $25m a year (incl NRL grant), then we gotta be spending a lot more on assets. We are probably spending 80-85% of that on player salaries in the NRL which to me is almost a depreciating asset (not exactly).

We aren’t making $8m profit, only just broke even under Richo for the first time in 10 years

All good, some of your comments have sounded like that. Thanks for letting me know. I’ve got a lot of Kiwi mates who love the Tigers and make similar comments.

I understand how important it is to build our grassroots system, and that HBG is not doing that well.

More importantly, we’ve been the most losing club since 2011, and it affects every level of how we develop.

I have no idea what the answer is—it’s way above my pay grade—but let’s get real: something has to change, and quickly.
