The rant thread

yeh i forged mine too.. had no problems at rta.. took me an hour the night before the test.

i had probably done over 150 hours before the test though coz i mainly drove with my cousin when i lived at his house.. never had a log book.

dont know of anyone who hasnt forged it tbh

Nearly all would forge it for sure. If a parent knowingly agrees with this and goes along with it out of laziness then they are playing a risky game with their kid's life TBH, not to mention all the other poor buggers on the road with them. It is worth the effort.

I know plenty of green p platers who are much worse drivers than younger mates who are still on their l's, has nothing to do with lack of hours.

I think if you pass the test you pass test.. It might take a few days to just get use to driving by yourself.. well thats what i was like.

Speaking of learner drivers, I wish someone would make a rule that they not be allowed on the road during the morning peak hours. Getting bloody sick of trying to get to work on time only to have L platers in front of me farting around about 20 kms below the speed limit cause they have all day - Arghhh!

i think it's a condition that they learners need certain hours at heavy traffic.. every every drive, they're meant to write down traffic conditions.

although, it's not like they check at RTA anyway

I guess that bullet really must have been magic then

Why do you think it was magic?

I'm not sure if your basing a lot of your assumptions on a Costner movie but have a flick through this before typing anymore.

Yes, so very logical that his head would snap back and to the left when the shot was suppose to have come from behind him from the right

Learners should be getting skills with an experienced driver in ALL conditions, weather, traffic situations day night etc etc…that said common sense should come into it.

Where we live there are large industrial areas that are deserted on w/ends, Im planning on taking my son around these areas and quieter residential streets for his first 30 hours or so....moving up to busier suburban streets to the next 30 hours with main roads towards the endo of that.
Depending on his skills and confidence, he might be able to then drive wherever we happen to be going rather than just a drive lor learning sake...towards the end of his hours we'll be looking at all aspects - highways freeways and particulalry merging onto f'ways
Luckily hes in no rush, he can log on and talk to his mates, dont need to drive over there....kids these days arent as in a hurry to get their licence it seems according to stats
My son began his Ls this year while he's in yr 11....by the end of year 12 he should be close to 120.....I plan on getting him three or four professional lessons thrown in where 1 hour counts as 3 at maybe 20 hours, 40 - 70 etc....I'll make sure i can sit in the back on these lesson so I can pick up tips or if the guys a dud, give him the flick.
He seems comfortable behind the wheel from the beginning, I think some people are more a 'natural' driver than others....he has pretty good spacial awareness tho if anything he may be a touch over confident and a bit of a lead foot....ive only had a couple of hairy moments where hes gone close to scraping my rims and he can find a pothole thats for sure

Agree on L's at peak hour, saw a indian woman yesterday in parra at an intersectin waiting for a R green arrow.....tooke the bend so slow nervously and cautiously only three behind her got around too....the bloke that missed the green pulled up beside me as I was waiting to go straight....could see him bannging his wheel and cursing, face turning red
Get in heavy traffic when you can handle it!

i tend to think that i have a very good knowledge of traffic conditions.. ever since i was small, i would never zone out while my dad is driving.. i would look at how the traffic is going, predict this car will change lanes, this car will overtake that car etc etc. etc.. i was real proud of that

however, around 1 month before my test (which i passed), the first few times (probably a month after i got my P's), i was shtting bricks in peak hour traffic. and this was a road where i had done over 100 hours off peak
peak hour traffic imo is completely different to other times. people trying to push in, but if you leave too much gap, the guy behind you gets the sheets. took me over 2 months to really get used to it.

it can take time.. you will see all sorts of people on the road.. druggos, drunks, L's, P's.. once or twice, you will run into trouble when you have to tailgate an L's.. but afaik.. they don't waste more than 5 minutes of your time.

patience is something i have learnt while driving in peak time.. leave the house 10 minutes early rather than swearing at an L plater or old ladies tbh

I drive many hours on the highway and I cant stand people who drive in the right lane… "Oops... There is a car 500m up the road, so I better stay here till I pass him"

Move over you IGNORANT ARSEHOLES!!!

You have an argument but it loses value when you put forward theories by Penn and Teller as being conclusive lol.

The physics don't change no matter who presents it. And was it really any less relevant than a dead comedians theory?

Penn and Teller along with The Great Randi are actually world class debunkers. P&T had a TV show dedicated to it, with great researchers behind it. They call themselves honest liars.

There are plenty of resources to look at though, the main reason I posted a clip to that is because it was quick, to the point and was easy to digest.

Another rant whilst still on the driving theme - speed humps! Do we really need so many and do they have to be the height of a small hill? There are some that no matter how slow you go over them, you still end up feeling like you lost the bottom of your car on the road somewhere! I sometimes want to send my car repair bills to the RTA so they can bloody pay them. Is it not enough for them that rego and green slips now add up to some astronomical amount each year? No, they have to put thousands of ridiculous obstacles all over the roads that wreck our cars as well, so that they become almost UN-register-able much sooner!

I've got a new one - People who get all pissy when you disagree with something they post.

Not just here necessarily, but in any kind of forum where opinions are discussed. Some are so precious that taking an opposing opinion to them is like a personal attack and accuse you of being a know it all, If you can't handle having your opinion challenged, don't post.
