Morris likes Sharks' chances - they're hungry
February 7, 2010

FOR John Morris, it's all about timing. When asked his reasons for joining Cronulla, we didn't expect this to be one of them.''There's the fact they haven't won the comp,'' Morris said. Pardon? Surely that's a reason not to sign up?
>
''No, no, that didn't cross my mind,'' Morris chuckled. ''You want a decent shot at winning one. But you never know where the next premiership is coming from. Players like Trent Barrett and Paul Gallen have busted their arse to win one. ''That's a real desire of mine because I haven't won one.''

Morris has come agonisingly close. The utility playmaker was 18th man when Newcastle did a lap of honour in 2001\. He was a member of some of the better Parramatta sides which didn't deliver on their promise in the noughties. And he arrived at Wests Tigers a year too late. So maybe his twisted logic makes sense. ''It's a bit of a different feeling here,'' Morris said. ''When I arrived at the Tigers, it was just after their '05 success. ''There's a different feeling when the club's never won one. Everyone has got that dream.''
>
Other recruits have their own reasons for coming to the Shire. For former Tigers centre Dean Collis, it was a change of scene. ''I needed it,'' he said. ''The last two years haven't been great; I've struggled with injury and form. ''You come to a different club and can get different things out of yourself. That's the plan.'' Morris admitted he had some qualms after the Sharks' dramas of 2009, but they were quickly allayed. ''Since I've arrived I couldn't be more impressed with it. It's all about looking forward.''

must admit I did watch the sharks when on NRL summertime.
Ricky Stuart did say that John Morris will be in the halves /halfback and Trent at 5/8.

Bit of a joke article. The Sharks will be on a hiding to nothing this year, they will still struggle to score points.

Worst attacking coach with the worst attacking halfback, ahhhhhhhh that article put me in a good mood before bed

So now that John Morris is gone and with Fitzhenry only to be a back up player incase of injury, who on earth will be the scapegoat for the tigers in 2010?

I am betting on Payten

Yeh payten or maybe even Benji if he does not peform early on in the season. you watch all the knockerrs come out of the woodwork

To be fair I am sure I will also hack at Beau Ryan this season for something that is actually not that bad an error. I just don't rate him so I would have to add myself to the list of mockers first up

Yeah Ryan and Payten for mine will get it. In terms of the verocity of abuse, Benji will cope plenty, but when he pulls something off that wins us a game, the very same people will praise the hell out of him. A true scapegoat never gets any sort of credit at all, even when they do something fantastic.

Yes because that is how it ALWAYS works. :unamused:

no not always

Interesting, but do you really need a scapegoat? Surely if their playing in a Tigers shirt and giving 100% you should be getting behind them. In my experience if the crowd is on someone's back then their play just gets worse as they're on edge in case they make another mistake. I can understand getting on someones back if they have a half hearted attitude, or no real interest in playing for the club, but for all the others ie those that are working their backsides off, should it not be the coach getting it in the neck for picking them!!!! I'm afraid I'm not a big fan of having a scapegoat unless it's really justified, I think you get more out of the team by giving them good backing and support. That boosts your confidence a lot more than jeering, and when a player loses confidence then they're not at their best.
