Hi everyone I'm looking for the lament thread where we missed out on Cameron McInnes.

If you want to simplify it to lament, that is fine...

But others have productively contributed and discussed a lot of valid points...

Last time I looked a "forum" was a place for discussion...as opposed to someone posting one liners and trying to look smart...

It was a pie and sauce for a win.
Nothing for a loss.
Madge played hard ball.

Would have been a terrible, unnecessary signing. Stoked we 'missed' out.

Moh...you don't think we need:
A 13?
A player who can make 50 plus tackles a game / extremely high ratio of made tackles?
Fearless?
Warrior mentality?
Mobile enough to cover the field and balance our bigger, less mobile, pack?

That is **exactly** what we need.

Yes he would’ve been handy for sure, even for his leadership qualities alone. I honestly don’t know why we can’t land them.

Rarely indeed

McInnes is highly respected because he puts his head where others would have second thoughts about dipping their feet. He continually meets the biggest and toughest players in the NRL without fear. While we certainly could have used his toughness, it’s more important we find a few of those blokes that other guys don’t want to tackle.

Not if you are the murdoch media, they know how to spread lies

Agree totally on this assessment.
They are our weak spots in our armour and will cost us this year. And even if Laurie joins us early it’s doubtful that he will provide what we need on consistent high level.
Too many things needed to work out for a lucky outcome I’m afraid.
But should be interested to see how all the young guys perform and for me .... that’s always a positive to take into a new season.
Also one year on some of those good credential youngsters we signed up will be closer to displaying their potential against first grades.
But yeah we need to use our 2020 $s wisely and sign some experience and talent to fill those yawning gaps in our spine.

I agree with posters here who mentioned the club has been through a really dark decade. Players want to come to clubs that are successful and stabilised. I think the stability has improved over the last couple of years, particularly in relation to finances. On field success this year is critical. I hope I am not overly optimistic, but I really feel a strong year is coming. The players in general seem keen and I think Madge learnt last year that a balance is needed in how you manage your team. This showed in our end of year performances. Hope I'm not wrong.

Agree .... I also think we have done an excellent job in off loading the dead wood that have been holding us back.
Still a few more to go but a great start.
I think James Tamou will be our buy of the off season and not for his playing ability but more for his leadership and development of building a winning culture. Even the way he talks he just comes across as a true professional that demands standards. Panthers will miss him this year i think

Well from reading from informed people on the Forum,it happened like this,: they had informal talks,he said he wanted to play hooker (more money) Tigers said we want a lock,we have two 9s.They may also wanted a 3 yr contract, and he wanted 4.End of talk ,does not meet the Tigers criteria no deal offered.See you later alligator! later takes a deal to play lock.

I Think we have finally realised,it's not just a matter of the good signings you make, but the bad signings you don't make that makes you a great club.In the last year,we have grown up.

Good call mate!
I reckon we have a few decent locks in our ranks. Lucy or Blore for starters. I believe Twal will start there for the time being. He fits the mobile no nonsense, tackle machine.
I know people want a linking pass on him but I honestly think we don’t need it as much.
Joffa Is a good size for lock and quite mobile (great step at the line) however Doesn’t have the engine to go the distance.
Blore long term most likely especially with Kelma Tulagi pushing onto an edge in the future.

I hope a few of our young guys jump up out of the ground mate but in reality I just think we’re a bit in denial as a fan base. In the back of our players minds they’re probably thinking, oh great Raiders first up; big Papaali will be streaming onto it then there’s about 5-6 other elite forwards to worry about, same goes for guys like Fisher Harris leading his pack of aggressive forwards with the big unit Kikau out on the edge. I don’t have to rattle off the Roosters, Storm or Parra packs because we all know their star power. In reality it’s a pretty tall order to expect our new group of NRL journeyman and rookies to compete with those star studded sides. With our side on paper another mid field finish will be par for the course.

I really have to have a giggle to myself with some of the posts in this thread...
We have had comparisons to 2005,we have had get Crighton, get McIness, get who ever we need to get us in the finals....
But we need Madge and Hartigan to get us the players we need to get to the finals, huge money tied up by previous coach, limited money to spend, new rule changes which need players to compliment those changes and young guys coming into the NRL....
I honestly dont know about you guys but I would hate to be in Madges shoes trying to satisfy a heap of keyboard warriors while trying to do my job for the club and team...
Honestly we can all sit back and bag the crap out of everyone involved with the club and team or we can watch how their selections and purchases unfold during 2021..
My honest opinion is that recruitment and Madge are all trying to resolve the mess left behind and try and build a premiership squad for the next few years...
God forbid there will be plenty of mistakes made along the way,but also plenty of repairing of past failures.we need to let the ball roll and see how far we go in 2021 before we call for the scalps of the people who are far more specialised in their chosen career paths...
Madge and Hartigan will lead us to the promised land...And I also had faith in Moses and Jesus himself...Let the guys who have been paid to do their job without obstruction and at the end we can have our SPECIALISED say....
Im glad I didnt take up a coaching opportunity I was offered,I would of been to hard but fair,,,something this new generation of players and kids would not endure....END of story END of rant...love you all......

Yep .... coaching is a hard gig ..... and very few survive long term. But it’s what they leave behind is what they should be judged on.
I my opinion the current crew are doing ok and I have faith that foundations are solid. The test will come not this season but the next and by then the proof will be in the pudding for all to judge.

I wouldn’t have offered him one either . How many 9s who move to 13 , have a super productive career once that move happens . His body is naturally on the small side , he plays with all heart , but at some point , honestly , usually around 30 , that the body starts to move just that .5 of a second slower , and your trips to ice room and sauna arnt 20 mins but more like an hr, and you start to know the physio and masseuse have 2 kids and are worried thier husband /wife is cheating on them . Lol
