The senior players

Word on the media is that senior players are not responding to Mick. Taking this with a grain of salt, it does raise something that I may have missed in previous threads. That is, irrespective of age, seniority, etc., if Mick hasn't been able to win players over, then that won't happen this year or next year or as long as the senior players are there (which I assume would be Robbie, Big Red, Fulton & co?). Have the patients taken over the asylum? It appears that way, assuming again that the club has in fact sought feedback frm players on Mick's performance. I think that every club needs to come to terms with the power that senior players have OR take swift action to make sure they pull their heads in. At this point, it appears the WT have chosen the former. Time will tell if the decision is in the best interests of the club and its supporters. Would also be interesting to know what influence senior players did have in chosing Mick as the coach, at the time a few other names were mentioned as I recall, did we end up getting who we could afford more so than who we REALLY wanted?

Funny thing is a lot of senior players have extended their contracts knowing Potter is coach. That's why the whole thing doesn't make sense

Exactly. Most of the clubs would've been after Farah and yet he chose to stay knowing Mick is the coach.

Heard a few of the senior players are not fans of Potter. This has had a trickle down effect and now the Balmain side of the board want to oust him. So make of that what you will.

Farahs signing was early in the season though Round 2-3 if I remember correctly

Maybe they are all still crying because Benji's leaving and it is bringing back the horrible memories of Beau and Rhino leaving Hope the club has organized some counselling sessions and a few wambulances :unamused:

Senior players??? Farah, Fulton, Galloway have all extended at a time where they believed potter was the future coach! Lawrence has come out and said he wants to stay at the tigers, potter has constantly been loyal to Blair in both selections and voice in the media… So I have to assume none of those senior players want potter gone!
All bull shit I would say.. Can't be paying 3 coaches next year!

The only logical reason would have Potter and the board fighting over differences and club politics

If that's the case , the senior players should come out and publicly support Potter , defuses the board if they do .

All I can say is that so many people on this forum are full of shit. Why sack a coach one year into a real rebuilding stage? It just does not make sense and not even our dysfunctional board are that crazy.

If Potter was indeed brought in to change the culture, undo a "boys club" and set a new structure, then of course he is going to upset some senior players.

Imagine a new boss walks in and undoes all the perks and comforts of your job. It may be for your own benefit, but you won't like it. Everyone wants to get max pay and enjoyment for minimum fuss.

So I for one am glad to hear not all the players like him. This business is more about results than popularity; in other words, results breed popularity. Some of the worst coaches in the world have been the nicest, most popular guys.

Agree, leadership is not a popularity contest…unless we know why the "senior" players don't like him - is it his apprach, his tactics, his knowledge of the game?? - we'll never know the root cause of this mess..

The first sentence in the first post was enough for me. "Word in the meda" = BS and speculation. Need to sell more newspapers boys, go and make a story.

Wouldn't have thought so, given the air time the issue is getting!..

As a coach at junior level the first lesson I learnt was that you cannot please everybody, players or parents (fans). It takes courage but I am very now very sure that Potter has plenty of it. Good luck to him for standing his ground and not conceding to anybody's strategy but his own.

"Senior players" refers to Benji Marshall. It's plain obvious that he's never gotten on with Potter and only has a professional working relationship. As some have stated, several players have re-signed whilst under Potter's control so that does raise doubts over the legitimacy of those claims. Honestly getting real sick of all this. A shame the season isn't over already.

So, Banji then was re-instated as part of Potter standing his ground, was he?

Farah, as captain, needs to come out and let us know what he thinks. He kept his mouth shut about what was going on with Sheens last time but thats not good enough as a captain. Time to lead Robbie.
