The sharks are confident.

They are due to beat us and are full of confidence.
New imposing pack and dally m halfback.

I reckon a very close game.

Hopefully we smack them but I wouldn't be surprised if they give us a real run for our money, especially if we take them lightly.

Thoughts?

They are definitely more confident.

I think the trial against Manly went to their heads actually. They really expect Carney to do another miracle like he did for Roosters in 2010.

They have every right ot be confident This is the best side they have put on the paddock for a few years now

If we show up and play to our potential we should win ,but it will be close in my opinion less than 7 points in it I reckon

With their signings why wouldn't they be confident. If your not confident in round 1 then there is something wrong with your football team

WT will not be taking this game lightly.
Sharks will be at fever pitch, with a mouth frothing Gallen leading the way.

Coach Sheens would be reinforcing the need for the Tigers pack to shed the 'powder-puff' tag that has plagued them for years.

The WT players would detest seeing Gibbs and Fafita strut around Leichhardt if they knocked us off.

I'm tipping a lightning paced game with both teams throwing the ball around; and the odd fracas thrown in for good measure. The Doctors will be busy with the nylon thread in the sheds afterwards.

Standing room only on the hill with Big League magazine to block the sun…

What more could you ask for on a Sunday afternoon?

good point…all fans and players are full of confidence in RD1...

I'm thinking this will be a close game for the first 70 minutes… Both packs will have question marks over there go forward for 80 minutes and this will be crucial for the likes of Carney and Moltzen.

As with most early round games, the team who defends as one should come out on top. Players like Ayshford who have great counter-attack could be the star, but ultimately discipline will probably be the key, as the man with the whistle likes to blow the crap out of the pee in the first few weeks of the comp.

Tigers by 10

This is the time to get the tigers who are notoriously slow starters.

Heres hoping that this is the year that we see the WT become the consistent team we all want them to be.

So they should be….
We were VERY LUCKY to get on top of them in the last 2 games...
They're team is by far stronger than either of those!!
They are well overdue to beat us... And I can't see us turning up for the full 80!!
I'm hopeful.... But no where near confident!!
We will learn a lesson in Rd 1, And the Sharks will show they are genuine!!

The challenge for the Sharkies is the lack of meters that they will lose with no Snowden and Douglas… Both of these boys will be a big loss and it will show when they are in there own half. The players they have bought simply wont get them enough, and they will rely heavily on Graham and Carney for big kicks to get them out of trouble.

Best insight for mine so far in this thread.

I can't see the sharks playing a good field position game against us, and as a result our attack will be too classy. Tigers by 14.

Tigers will take them comfortably at Leichhardt. The Tigers were foxing against the Chooks and didn't bother playing it up the middle at all and never bothered drawing the Roosters defenders in before going wide. They won't do that against the Sharks, and Watto is right, the Sharks go forward will not be as strong without Douglas and Snowden. Gibbs is ok up the middle but I think the Tigers will handle him without any problems, and Fifita is only effective against the staggered defence, and the Tigers know that.

I saw enough of the Tigers passing game against the Roosters to know that if the Tigers play it up the middle and draw the defenders in, they'll get around any side with their superior ball movement. All the Tigers need is a genuine speedster outside Lawrence. Utai is not the answer as any overlap the Tigers get on their left side will be nullified unless Lawrence goes himself.

will Fifita even get a jersey? He was named @ 24 for last weekends trial…

I'd say he has Gibbs, Ross, Greene & Tafua in front of him. Will they play with 5 props?

The Sharks have signed really well in the halves and forwards and have every reason to be excited. A totally new front row with Gibbs, Fifita, Ross and De Gois, and the same strong back row with Tupou, Gallen and Smith. With a recognised halfback and a few choices at 6, they should be able to get some really good go forward.

But that's where it stops. They've got next to nothing in the backs.

This is going to be a really great battle between two very formidable forward packs, especially with the Gibbs and Fifita factor. I think we've got it slightly over them in the forwards - Blair and Ellis are definitely above Smith and Tupou, so if we can manage to get the roll on up front, our backs definitely have it over them out wide and will run rings around them.

I believe the Liechhardt factor will douse any confidence.

Cronulla have to -

-Get a bus through bumper to bumper traffic
-Get of the bus in Mary Street then walk through the gauntlet to the Dressing rooms being Heckled all the way (they will be in carney, gibbs and fifita deluxe)
-Get dressed in medievil style dressing rooms
- have to warm up on Liechhardt oval being heckled by the crowd all the way.

All this is before they even run out on to the field.

Tigers by plenty!

And if that were us walking into that kind of enviorment you would probably say that would be a great bonding experience and would bring our boys closer together. How do you know it wouldn't bring the Sharks together? don't get to cocky

Am a little worried about this game. Sure, we should beat them comfortably, but I also thought that in the first game of 2011 when we were beaten by the Bullfrogs.

I'll be relieved to grab the two points.

True, their backline is custard. I also think their prop rotation is fairly average - not much metre eating and full of tradesman-like players. Their backrow is world class but so is ours. Their bench will not have much impact. De Gois is quality.

If there is any team we should feel confident about anytime, it is the Sharkies. On 14/Jun/03 they beat us by two points, and since then have only beaten us once (in 2008). We are 12 and 1 against them in the last 13 encounters.
