The Wooden Spoon battle

Panthers v nights are playing next week. If Newcastle win and we loose then there still a chance for spoon. Nights for and against is shocking so if they loose they have the spoon for sure.

34 - 18 raiders, that is a good result for us, short of a draw between the knights and panthers next saturday, or us getting belted, we won't get the spoon.
But we will know before we play on saturday any way what we need to avoid the spoon.

I think it's pretty amazing that the wooden spooner this season will have a total of 20 points! Not that many years ago 26 points was cut off for top 8 and spooners were only getting around 12-14\. Times have changed - the standard and evenness across the board has definitely lifted.

The panthers have a 23 point worse f/a than us, if the knights win by say 2, that would leave penrith -198, meaning we would have to lose by 25 points or more.
Our big win on sunday may have saved us from the spoon, ohh to hell with it, just beat saints and be done with it.

Thank you raiders this makes it impossible for us to get our very first spoon as the wests tigers because knights panthers play each other next week we are saved!!!

No Geo has put the curse on us and come up with a scenario where they draw and we lose!

LOL yeah right when was the last time you seen a draw?? or maybe we had 14 men on the field yesterday and will lost 2 points :roll

I thought I saw it was only 7 points but maybe that was not taking tonights game into account.

They might be at home but a five day turnaround and Soward unlikely to play, that might be a difficult game for Panthers to win. Plus the Knights recent wins, us and Storm were away from home.

Well its just before our game so we will know what the scenario is before running out….or more than likely it will take until half time until someone in the club can do the sums, still gives us 40 minutes

Due to the panthers winning tonight, we have officially dodged the spoon. Panthers and Knights will battle out for it next week.

Not yet ! Knights beat Panthers & we lose to Dragons, we could still get is based on how much we lose by.
Also if Knights & Panthers have a draw & we lose we get it.

What a fall from grace for the Pennies this yr. Their injuries over the last 2 yrs have been ridiculous, worse than ours. Gus and Cleary have done a lot of good for that club, but how they don't address this issue has me lost.

Oh wow forgot the draw outcome!

If knights beat panthers in a flogging there f/a will be worse than ours, there is 129 points difference between Knights and Tigers. Only way we could get is is by them two drawing and us losing which is very unlikely, it would be the worst luck ever haha

So many on here have opinions about how the club should be run, yet basic maths and problem solving escape them. here we go:

If the Tigers win, we can't get the spoon regardless of other results.

If Penrith win, we can't get the spoon.

If Newcastle win by a narrow margin and the Tigers get done by more than the current differential of 23 points between us (-73) and Penrith (-96) then we will take the spoon. (E.g Knights win 20-18 and we lose 32-6 the spoon is ours).

As others have mentioned we can also get the spoon if we lose and the other game is a draw.

Hope that clears it up. Now, how about that salary cap?

LOL at dragons winning by a lot this is a team that can't score more then 2 trys a game most weeks, it's a joke that they are playing finals footy with not having to win more games then lose

Funny to think how important Sunday's 34 points differential has ended up being, the wooden spoon battle was sort of lost in the emotion of the day.

All the anxiety which many WT supporters have expressed on this forum about their team finishing with the wooden spoon is very much unfounded. We are now entering the last round of the competition and you will see what I mean when you see the ladder statistics for the bottom 7 teams in the competition.

1\. Of the 7 bottom teams there are 3 bottom teams with 20 points to their credit.
2\. The remaining 4 bottom teams have only 22 points which is only one win more than the three bottom teams.
3\. Of all the 7 bottom teams Wests Tigers has the best For and Against Average, second only to Canberra.

Take the above statistics into account and you will see that many of us have been very harsh in judging this year's performance of a very young, financially hampered team. Give due credit and encouragement where it is due.

Lol that would be of some comfort if we all hadn't witnessed the season. We have been great a couple of times, good a couple of times and the rest has been awful.
