There is no story

I've been overseas for a while, come back to the middle of this storm in a teacup about Farah and Potter and the Tigers board.

OK so Potter's position is under pressure - no surprises, we came 15th last year and he is a 2nd year coach. Take a step back for a minute and tell me how many coaches the past 2-3 years have not had to absorb a fair share of pressure. Stuart, Bennett, Griffin, Price, Elliott, Furner, Henry, Flanagan, Brian Smith, McClennan, Kearney, Cartwright, Stone, Sheens, Sharp… the list is as long as my arm. Really the only coaches who are riding somewhat comfortably are Toovey, Cleary, Hasler, Maguire, Robinson and Bellyache. NO STORY.

So Potter's assistants might want his job. Probably true of 95% of assistant coaches. NO STORY.

So Farah in private said 15 months ago that Potter couldn't coach / was struggling / had room for improvement. He's the team captain, he's a leading player, he's opinionated, he's arguably our best player. He's entitled to an opinion and it was expressed in private. NO STORY.

So Tallis revealed Farah private conversations, and Farah fired up. That is a small story, granted. Tallis is pushing a media angle, Farah has been burned. It happens to people in the media all the time. People will be more careful talking to Tallis from now on, and even if Tallis is 100% accurate, what he is saying makes no difference to anything. NO STORY.

So Grant Mayer made supportive comments, that in hindsight he could have made a little earlier if he'd predicted the media attention. There is something to be said for not always swinging your bat every time the media pitches a story at you. NO STORY.

So Farah took a day off training to deal with media pressure he has received. He's a big boy, he'll cope. He might be doing it hard, but he knows people who have been through worse, consider the Benji assault case, Laffranchi assault case, Robert Lui assault case, Tedesco signing story... these examples blow the past week well out of the water. NO STORY.

So Tigers board is dysfunctional and the two sides of the merger are not ideally represented. This has been the case for 10 years, NRL have stepped in and a new board structure is imminent. Until then we can't make too many bold moves re the board. NO NEW STORY.

So Tigers still haven't resolved Rozelle Village issue. Until it is either sunk forever or given a lease of life, nothing has changed since that sorry place shut down years ago. NO NEW STORY.

So I don't get it, why is this getting so much media traction and why are the forum members on here driving these topics so hard? Are you just bored because we aren't playing great footy and there have been some long gaps between games? Are you sad to see the team in negative press, even if there really isn't much to it? Do you just love a good conspiracy theory or just want to voice an idea you've developed about what is going on?

I don't get it, the sum total of all this is NO STORY!

Agree with all your points Jirskyr. The root of all this though is the Tigers have arguably the most talented Juniors on the cusp of entering first grade and people are questioning whether Mick is the coach to take the team to premiership. Probably no story here either, as you, I, or everyone else who is reading about it doesn't know if Mick is the right person either… All we have to go off is the Tigers form and what we see and read about it. Can only really speculate on how well he is actually doing. Hopefully the people making the calls about our coaching future do so objectively...

I also agree, Jirskyr. None of it is believable and none of it matters. If Robbie doesn't think highly of the coach, then that is an issue because he has a right to an opinion.

Robbie is Gallen to the Sharks and Thurston to the Cowboys, more important that the coach.

Umm but it is a story.

Like it or not

Is it in the papers? Is it on the TV? Is it on social media?

Umm it is a story whether we like it or not.

Are all stories true?

There are stories.
Theres bad news stories
Good news stories
Interesting stories
Nothing, slow news day stories

Its interesting the Robbie detractors were in full voice on this forum a few days ago when the media were attacking him from every angle. They have suddenly gone very quiet now some sanity has prevailed and it seems that what was implied by the media was baseless and full of innuendo. The disgraceful thing about this whole incident is the timing and the effect it had on the team prior to a very important game. I have no doubt while there is no guarantee that we would have won, we certainly would have performed differently.

Some are fairy tales.

You guys have your head in the sand

The board meeting was bought forward to Sunday night to sack Potter.

However with the huge backlash from fans, sponsors and a media sotrm the board got the wobbles and called the sacking off.

Its a big story and the way we played suggested it was a big distraction.

You need to catch up with the latest Eddie. The Board were never going to sack Potter at that meeting.

Mayer confirmed in his radio interview that the Board is essentially in 'Caretaker Mode'. In other words, they are leaving all major decisions to the new board, which is expected in a month or so. Quite properly, Potter's future will be decided by the new board (ie, the three NRL independents).

When the DT got their prediction so spectacularly wrong, and Potter wasn't sacked, they invented the story that the board back-flipped because of the back-lash from fans, etc.

The whole story was a beat-up, and the DT are a disgrace.

You are right! One thousand percent right! I wish some others would stick to the facts they know rather than quote opinion/suspicion as fact.

100% beat up.

As if the 3 independent members would know how to select a coach.

As Paul Kent would say what are the qualifications?

Can't believe many on here believe the hyperbole that the board wants club to miss 8.

What nonsense.

Just a media push to get people thinking we need independent members.

We only need them cause Balmain isn't coughing up with the cash.

This sounds much more factual.

100% correct.

Fair bit of extra money involved in making the Top 8

We certainly couldn't let that go to waste

I think the board certainly want us to make the 8 , but they aren't making it any easier for us to achieve that goal , that's for sure

At last you have seen the light Eddie!

The DT fabricate a story without a shred of evidence about Potter's sacking. They get it horribly wrong.

Then, to save face, they fabricate another story about back-flips, again without a shred of evidence.

So yeah, you are right, the bad guys (ie the DT) made it up.
