This Year - Injuries - Not the reason

This has been one of the worst seasons on record for the Tigers considering our playing rooster.
Yes we have loads of injuries BUT look at the players in our stable.
Blair, Benji, Utai all Kiwi reps
Farah, Kiethy, Lawrence, Lote, All Aust reps
Hieno, Eliis both Pom reps
Woods, Fulton, Reedy, Moltz all City/Country reps
Thats a pretty damn good player list.

We are seriously lacking direction (a half and a coach that get kick these boys up a gear)

Just my thoughts
 
Ok when have we had those players on at the same time ?
Injuries have cost this year I am not saying that that's the only reason but they have
We haven't had the spine of the team stay the same in most of the year that's my opinion .

Most of the above players are overrated hacks that would never be first selection in any of Their respective teams.
Except benji in the 6 for nz.

Dont blame injuries we have more than enough had our chances. The fact is we were playing garbage football before some of our players got injured. Also, you can't expect to have your whole team fit for most of the year. You have to be good enough to overcome that stuff. The fact is the moment we miss 1 player it looks as if theres a massive whole in this side. We really only compete at full strength, and we were lucky in 2010 and 2011 that we had great runs with no injuries. Our depth is VERY poor in every position on the field accept wing and probably second row.

Of the guys you listed then most of them are not rep players. Just a comment on few of them.

Utai, Heighno, Lote, Moltzen , Reddy - Please don't tell me you consider any of these guys rep standard players. Even in 2010, Lote wasn't up to it at his career best form for us.
Benji, Blair, Ellis - Might make there countries, but none would make NSW, QLD or Australia.

Farah, Woods and Lawrence - Farah and Woods are our only real rep quality players. Lawrence is possibly too, but on 2011 form Lawrence is no where near but I wouldn't write him off yet, but he's got to stay fit.
 
That's the thing, taking off our tiger glasses and in a way, we are not as GREAT as we seem to think we are… And just maybe that's part of the issue, a decent squad but at some point is it just lack of attitude or also lack of ability with overall squad. I think it's definetly a combination of both

Admittedly we have had a shocking run with injuries, however it's how sheens reacts to them that's the problem.

One player goes down and sheens brings in one player but makes three positional changes to counter it.

It's a joke and creates no continuity whatsoever.

I remember even back in the trials against the Eels and Roosters thinking how disinterested, flat and passionless the team looked (generally), but I thought we would ramp it up.

We did to a degree and a had a few good wins but overall this team has not fired in 2012.

The reasons for this are numerous imo including - "star" players being too comfortable within the club, emotional strain (Robbie's mum), lack of a genuine halfback, lack of pace out wide (particularly disappointing year for Ayshford and Lawrence), frustration from poor performances leading to ill-discipline and lastly I believe there seems to be a lack of "togetherness"- I don't mean the guys aren't friends but sometimes it feels like they are playing together for the first time despite being team mates for 5+ years.

In all I think we need new enthusiasm, we need to get down and dirty, we need to shed the "pretty boy" image of a few of the guys and get our hands dirty.

I hate the Bulldogs but they are generally consistently successfully because they have hard and punishing forwards, halves that can direct them around the field with a good kicking game and speedy backs.

Valid Point. Ayshford was NEVER ever as good as half this forum thought he was. And I fear Beau Ryan may be going down the same path. He's had a solid year, but some people have even thrown up the "origin" tag next to his name.
 
Yes, we've had a few injuries but how many of them have seriously hurt our chances. Only 2 in my opinion. The loss of Ellis and Galloway for extended periods. When our injury toll was at its worst, we won 7 in a row. So that kind of puts this theory to bed. The fact is we've had a side that for extended periods has still included Lawarence, Moltzen, Marshall, Farah, Woods, Blair, Heighington and Fulton. Still good enough to make the 8 in my opinion. What's cost us then? Positional changes have hurt us big time. Sheens in my opinion has failed to utilize his squad to the best of his ability. Basically the team dynamic has suffered, hence an average looking attack for most of the season and poor defensive reads, particularly throughout the middle to back end of the season.

That is the problem,and it is 100% the coaches fault,he is like month old bread,gone past stale and well on the nose,time to go please Humphreys sack him now,whatever the cost of paying him out and not getting Royce back would be well worth it. 😛ray: .
 
I put it down to attitude and defensive structures put in place. There's no doubt the team can attack, but the attack has only ever flourished when the defence has been solid, which has been far too infrequent for the Tigers to make a serious play at the premiership this year.

On more than one occasion there has been no line speed in defence whatsoever, and the Tigers have copped hidings as a result. And then there's the goal line defence which has seen far too many players sliding, rather than moving up in a straight line.

Some of the positional decisions as a result of injuries have been poor, but we would be sitting higher on the ladder if the team showed some pride in their defence.
 
At last check our defence was the 5th worst in the comp. No excuses needed there, just not good enough and Sheens needs to be held answerable to those statistics. For a side who should've been sitting in the top 4, it's an embarrassing sign of the times really.
 
Injuries should never be used as an excuse. It's a cop out. Sheens is responsible for putting together a Top 25, as well as a State Cup side and the U/20s. How you structure your depth is just as important as putting together your strongest 17\. He's failed this year. Mid-year he had a knee-jerk reaction to recruit Cashmere and Iosefa - our hooker depth was fine IMO but we were short on props from day 1\. The fact he's used 9 different halves combinations this year, and only called on the junior grades a few times, shows he has not structured the whole club's depth effectively.

According to experts on this forum, our players are overrated, and would struggle to play FG in any other team, so why are we surprised with the results ? But, at the same time we blame Sheens.
What can any coach do with a bunch of 'overrated nobodies' ?
Please explain.

If he keeps signing them and playing them then he is responsible!

I feel most people who post on here are fairly knowledgeable R/L fans. If we thought our team was overrated we wouldn't be shocked at where we currently sit on the ladder. It's because of the strength of our squad that people are rightly asking questions of a guy who has only Coached us to the top half of teams in the Comp, 3 times out of 10.

This is 100% correct.
 
We had a worse injury toll last year and still made top 4\. Certainly cannot be used as an excuse this year. Poor attitude and lack of playing structure is what has killed us off this year - nobody knows what they're doing out there most weeks! Ad-lib football will only get you so far.
 
There was at least 4 players in the group that could of had a go at 1/2 this season and not had to move Benji enough said!
