Those moments- Benji

Almost every press conference Benji mentions "those moments and how we need to do better".. Unfortunately those "moments" have tormented this club for many years. Its a negative culture developed over a period of time. Benji was asked in a presser what are those moments that the team needs to do better which he replied, "the wrong options, the errors etc".. Benji failed to mention how the team needs to address those "moments". Anticipation and comepetevines are what's lacking in this side (and sides before). To anticipate on plays (what happens next) and then "compete"that play is what lacks. It seems that this side lacks the skill or ability to read the next play. They sit back wondering what might happen next rather than "challenging" what might happen next. For an example (and just one) the bomb from Douhei that Bula projected into the ingoal on Sunday was poorly misread by our team. We stood back and did not anticipate what would happen next. When you dont anticipate what might happen next, you fail to compete in that play.. As a result, after 3 missed tackles and 90 metres later knights scored and the game was gone. We are poor at anticipation and competing the ball. I'm not a coach and I don't know how the mindset of anticipation and how to compete every play can be learned / taught but watching this club continuing to fail in "those important moments of a game" are extremely frustrating and disappointing... Up the Tigers..

It was an interesting game and I get what Benji meant about moments. They obviously identified it was a heavy 10 and rain was coming so quick men would struggle to get into the game. The first half game plan to kick into corners worked well, unfortunately we only managed a 6 point lead.

We were well in control until we strung a penalty late in the count with two errors in poor positions of the field and the momentum really swung on that.

We had a moment against the run of play which should have resulted in a sin bin after Ponga held Makasini down. Our set off the back of that showed how much the conditions had sapped us.

Ultimately we didn’t have the gas and we lost in the effort areas late which cost us the game.

Those consecutive errors I referred to, and I’m sure Benji was too, really cost us the match.

At the 74 minutes we were going down field no issue , we were close to the middle of the field and all we needed was a shot at field goal , we were about 35 out , AD should have had a crack but we just bombed again , Ponga took Bulla by the legs in the air so we missed a shot but also got robbed a penalty , and also as said Ponga held Macca down way to long and again no penalty , we should have been blowing up , Munster blows up on every tackle same as Harry grant , we need to learn to blow up more , The shot on Turuva also should have been a massive blow up straight away , we are still not at top 4 or 6 nrl squad , full strength we are just top 8 so we need to do the extra bits like all other teams , also throw a few forward passes , everyone else does it and gets away with it 80% of the time , time to play the real game

In every match there are moments in time where a positive action from your team forces an opportunity. A brilliant chase on an attacking kick that causes an error from their fullback. An aggressive tackle that causes a turnover in their 30m zone. Relentless pressure that results in a missed tackle. These opportunities also come in the form of referee interaction with repeat sets and penalties.
These opportunities decide close games. The good sides score from a reasonable percentage of them. Our side does not. This I believe is what he is referring to.
Makasini makes a full field linebreak and we fail to score from it.
Young does similar and they ice it. There’s the difference in that game. Both sides were terrible, but they took one more of their chances than we did (and we were provided with many), they were successful in their “moment”.
