THREE Wests Tigers players have been heavily fined and forced to apologise to teammates after a Friday night drinking session in a western Sydney pub.
>
Beau Ryan, Liam Fulton and Bryce Gibbs watched two games of televised Friday night football on March 18 before the night ended on a sour note - with a heated carpark argument between two of the players, a woman and her partner.
>
A witness says a bouncer was forced to step in to break up a potential scuffle.
>
Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys said players were remorseful that they had broken the club’s zero alcohol consumption policy for injured players.
>
They breached protocol by drinking during the season, particularly while in rehabilitation when they should have been preparing to regain fitness.
>
Fulton (shoulder injury) is expected to return to the field in Round 8, while injuries to Gibbs (knee) and Ryan (groin) are indefinite.
>
The club is already under strong scrutiny - because of an alleged punch thrown by star player Benji Marshall after a season launch in the city late last month.
>
The first-grade trio left the pub after televised games finished just before midnight.
>
A patron who saw the players inside the pub said they were in good spirits, but had clearly been drinking.
>
Another witness, who has asked for strict anonymity, spoke of a heated carpark argument.
>
Mr Humphreys backed the players, but admitted a pub was probably not the ideal venue to spend a Friday night while in rehabilitation.
>
He would not say how much players had been fined, but said it was in the ``thousands, not hundreds’‘.
>
``They have also suffered the indignity of apologising to their teammates and coaches for the poor decision that they made on this occasion,’’ he said.
>
``I’ve spoken to nine people about the alleged carpark incident and all agree there was nothing in it.’’

Nice work…Beau knows.. :brick: :bash oh and Fulton and Gibbo......

Great stuff guys .As if club doesn't have enough issues to deal with… If the club wasn't in such an injury crisis I would of given them a 1 match ban imo. No respect for the players doing right thing or for the club

Pretty dumb but well handled by the club

This. But the type of operator Humphreys is I'm guessing they're on track for curfew or alcohol ban if it keeps happening.

How hard is it to exercise a bit of commonsense? They're all well paid, I'm sure they have televisions at home to watch the footy on… Even if they were going to break the alcohol conditions, they could have at least done it at home and not caused a bloody scene.

Injured players already on zero alcohol consumption ban CB Totally agree that players stay at home to watch footy or why club does not find an area where players can have a beer or functions at either of the Leagues clubs astounds me . I know for a fact that Titans have one place on Surfers Paradise where they can associate at . Why other clubs don't do the same ????

I really don't rate Ryan or Fulton that highly, Gibbs I would like to hold on to, maybe we could cut the other two and free up some salary cap funds lol, and their replacements are doing a better job at the moment!

i think a few would disagree with the Fulton statement SD

I could let Ryan go, but Fulton is much like Gibbs in that he is a workhorse off the ball and has good hands for a forward.

I'm not impressed. I would expect much more from the guys in the senior playing group. Sends a great message to the younger players in the squad and the U20's.

Wests Tigers advises that three players from its NRL squad, Liam Fulton, Bryce Gibbs and Beau Ryan, have been censured and fined for breaching team injury management protocols. These protocols call for zero alcohol consumption for all players who are rehabilitating from injury. The three players have admitted to drinking alcohol whilst having dinner and watching a couple of NRL games on television recently at a Western Sydney venue. Wests Tigers Chief Executive Stephen Humphreys said: “The players understand that they have let themselves and their team mates down with a poor decision on this occasion. “They have apologised to their team mates and have been fined for the breach of team protocols. “The players are now focussed on their rehabilitation programs and are 100% committed to returning to the field as soon as possible.” Source: Wests Tigers Media Release

Agree with Icon though Beau Ryan would not be in my NRL side.

Fulton and Gibbs are both great players and welcomed back with open arms.

Some of you guys are hard on Beau Ryan who was a permanent first grader last year!
Almost everybody on here was bemoaning the fact we had to put Matt Utai on one wing and praying for Beau to get back in a hurry or to get Mitch Brown on the field.
So far Matt has made everybody ( including me ) eat their words and because of that Beau is worthless?
As for the indescretion - what do you say?
Sometimes young guys are boneheads and dont think of the repercussions.
A swift kick in their wallets will help wake them up and should be penalty enough.

They bloody well should be thinking of the repercussions after what happened less than 4 weeks ago.
