Three days into 2021 and I'm itching for the season to start.

To take the edge off I'm going to post a classic throwback every Sunday until 2021 gets started.

First up is a brutal battle in 1990 between Balmain and Wests in horrid conditions.

Under 21's was the on;y grade that mattered

Jason Stafford ...was he from up Qld way ....Patty O"Doherty knew him from the Ipswich Jets day ...his old man Hughie was a very good footballer as well

Steven Hocking came down and trialled as well from Ipswich about that time

If we signed any bloke from Ipswich it should have been Gordon Langton ...easily the fastest footballer i ever laid eyes on ...bloke was in the 10.5's in his footy gear ...and in the 1986 / 87 he and Alfie killed club footy

I'll swear on my life he was quicker than JAC , way quicker than Renouf , way quicker than Corowa

That's a big call saying that he was faster than JAC, but I believe you.

So many exceptional players have been overlooked over the past 30-40 years, primarily because the ARL back then and the NRL now still don't have a clear and solid pathway for our regional and rural clubs.

If we want to grow our game it's time to start looking at the talent in our out-of-city bread basket.

Never seen a footballer faster over 20 metres .....Steve Renouf would put 2 yards in me over 20 but I'd start to haul him in at the 60 mark ....Langton would put 4 yards in the 20 yard ..5 yards in 40 and I'd hold him from there and I'd hold him from 60 ..then again Gordon may have been easing down lol

Then again i was just slow off the mark ..hence why i ended up at fullback
